Overestimate or underestimate?

If you were to choose, would you say that the majority of men tend to overestimate or underestimate how horny MOST women are? I mean, would you rather say they have a tendency to think that MOST women are more horny than they really are or less horny than they really are?

    I think men still underestimate because there remains a residual feeling that women shouldn't be open about their desires. Women are hornbeasts. They just don't say it until they know you're okay with it.

      If they are such hornbeasts, how does their horniness (high levels of sexual desire) manifest itself in their everyday life? Do you think that they need orgasms every day, do they initiate sexual encounters and if they cannot have them with their partners, they masturbate every day to get the relief from their sexual tension? Or do their sexual desires spring up just from time to time during certain periods of their life and under specific circumstances?
      Aren´t we just creating another mythical legends (something like modern Nymphos of 21st century:)?

        Well, of course, not all of them (and it varies throughout life - a woman in her thirties is usually more sexually open and wants sex more often than she did in her mid-twenties, although that's not always the case either). But from friends and previous relationships, women often want more sex than they felt able to say they wanted. A lot of my single friends have vibrators and have no problem with picking up a man for a one night stand. I don't think they're nymphos, nor are they looking for sex constantly, but it's at least as often as me and I think my drive is on the high side of average. That might just be my friends, though.

          And what about MOST women? My question is focused on horniness of MOST women so if you say women are hornbeasts, may I assume that you think that MOST women are hornbeasts?

            You may of course make an assumption and I commend you because most people don't ask permission. I myself made an assumption that you meant "most" as meaning "the greater proportion" and so I just took a sample set of the people I know and was hopefully very clear about it, i.e.

            "from friends and previous relationships"

            "A lot of my single friends"

            "That might just be my friends, though."

            What I hadn't realised is that you wanted answers from people who know most of the women of the world (i.e. more than 1,800,000,000) so I'll retract my answer and just let people who do know between 1.8billion and 3.6billion women answer this. Sorry for misunderstanding what you wanted. You were quite clear about it in the question. I just made the assumption because, as much as I get around, there are limits.

              I just asked because the sentence "Women are hornbeasts" seems to me to be closer to a general statement than to a description of the greater proportion of your friends. Moreover, you specified the sample set of women only in your second comment after prasatko had challenged your assumption that women are hornbeasts. You wrote "Women are hornbeasts" in your first comment without any signal that you don't mean it as more or less general statement.
              I was confused and that is why I asked. After your clarification it seems to me that you mean that the greater proportion of your friends and previous girlfriends are hornbeasts - do I understand it correctly?

    Great question.
    My guess is that most men overestimate the levels of female sexual desire in general.
    Possible reasons:
    1.wishful thinking
    2.projection of their own states onto other people, in this case their potential partners
    3.popular culture including modern trends in social sciences and ideologies
    4.sensational anectodal evidence blown up out of proportions
    5.misinterpreting some signals as signs of sexual interest while these signals might reflect all other kinds of interest which are not directly sexual
    6.inability to distinguish clearly between fantasies and reality

    Possible consequences:
    1.too much disappointment and frustration
    2.too many misunderstandings and misconceptions
    3.in some cases: confusion about what is and what is not rape, date rape, sexual coercion, sexual objectification etc
    4.in some cases: misunderstanding and blaming such phenomena as pornography and prostitution
