Only able to sleep with a certain noise?

Is it normal to only be able to fall asleep if there is a certain noise that practically lulls you to sleep? Like, for me, when i was little, i was unable to sleep unless i heard the TV on downstairs. Now, i'm unable to fall asleep if my fan isn't on while i'm trying to go to sleep.

I know exactly what you mean!! I don't understand how someone can fall asleep without that dull whooshing of the fan! And my parents hate it too...but they don't understand how bothering the sound of silence can be!

I'm the same way. But I've gotten used to not putting my fan on in the winter... Lol. Any more, the ringing in my ears puts me to sleep :/

I always have to have the light and sound of the tv! And when I hear the heater vent come on, I fall asleep almost instantly! Lol, it's normal!

I agree. If I'm sleeping in utter silence, it's annoying, and can be creepy.

I am similar to you. I find it so much easier to fall to sleep if my television is on - which infuriates my parents because I fall asleep and leave it on all night. Thus, running up a somewhat hefty electricity bill.
