I am amazed at how someone who was bullied can turn into a bully themselves. Were they hurt so bad that they insist on doing the same to others as some sort of vindication for the actions of others. I just don't get it.
And then...and then, they go and get upset when it happens again and again and again.

When you get bullied, you feel powerless. You feel like there's nothing you can do to stop the frustration inside of you. All the anger and stress just builds up because you have no way of getting out the rage. Enter a kid who you perceive as inferior to you, thanks to the bullies you're now aware of that notion. That some people are inferior to others. In order to remind yourself that you're not weak you do to that kid what the bullies do to you. Then, the cycle repeats.
I was bullied consistently all through primary school. I know how bad it is, and would never want to make someone else feel miserable. That said, I can understand why some people do.
I've been bullied pretty bad over the years, I'd never dream of bullying someone else.
Problem with being a bully is that there is ALWAYS somebody bigger and badder out there.

Yes I agree with you. I never got this either. I was bullied as a kid and I never went on to bully other people in the same manner.
I could have easily found some random kid and just start beating them to look cool and I didn't. However attacking your attackers is completely justified and should be encouraged.
A common misconception about bullying. Almost no one actually decides to be a bully. Most of the time it "just happens".
About the situation that you mention, I think we are just brought up like that. Even when we think we disapprove bullying, the truth is that in our society we are taught that the weak are meant to be oppressed by the strong. So it is not like bullied people are being hypocrites, they are just part of a bigger system.
