I've been reading a lot of posts in which the ops say they are "talking to someone". What does it mean? Is that a new way of saying they've been flirting?
Has "flirting" become an old lady /old man word?

Most times I think it is meant as a way of saying they are potentially interested in the person (relationship-wise), but haven't progressed into the relationship stage yet. In other words, they are 'just talking;' trying to get to know one another better.
I've always assumed it's a word people use when they don't know where they stand, so they use the most non-committal language possible. Like maybe they're dating, maybe they just having sex, maybe they're doing none of the above... whatever they're doing, they're definitely at least talking.
I rate this post 2/10, basically an extra couple points for good punctuation.

talking to somone is like getting to know them. it's like the present relationship thing
It means they are vocally interacting with someone else. Whether or not they are flirting depends on context, and the situation.
Basically when 2 people have established they are interested in each other and are getting to know each other in preperation for the next step.
When I say it, it means flirting or planning on hooking up. I'm guilty of using it myself in a recent post. As in "I've been talking to this guy..." Translation: "We've been flirting; we seem to be attracted to each other." It seems better to use it when the person in question reciprocates the interest...
I see it as chatting via text messages... Perhaps they met online/tinder and haven't yet actually met in person?
