Object sexuality, is it normal?

Recently I was listening to a radio show hosted by Mike Gallagher which was currently playing previous "best of" topics. One of the topics was object sexuality. From what was said on his show, it sounded like people had crushes on objects, similar to how some people fall in love with animals. So I was intrigued and decided to search youtube for videos depicting what this meant.
I came across a video and... Well let's just say it left me without words. I did not know this was real at all. I know I'm a recluse, but I watch news and am pretty up to date with whatever's current. So now I am not sure whether or not this is normal and I have just somehow missed this. Is this possibly taboo and for that reason not spoken of very much?
