Nothing is real

I have moments where i look around and nothing feels real, everyone seems distant and i find it really hard to concentrate on anything..like people around me are talking and i just zone out completely and i realize a few minutes later that i didn't take in anything they said!
The other day i sort of freaked out because i realized where i was, liked I'd blacked out for a couple days or something. And it's really freaking me out.

Erm. You might have derealization but your 2 day black out? That sounds serious. I would say start with looking into that and then move on from there.

Pretty sure s/he was speaking metaphorically there.

I got that. I've experienced derealization before and I don't remember having any "black out" experiences that were for more than a day. So that is to suggest he might be more dissociative than is normal (for me).

Oh, I see. I thought the metaphorical blackouts were normally pretty constant with depression, at least longer than 2 days, so it seemed pretty normal to me.

  • Sounds like some type of dissociative disorder. i would be very concerned about the 2 day blackout. Do you not remember anything?

    • I don't know, it happens quite often. I usually have a vague sort of idea what I've been up to. And since i live with people i can always ask them if they were around.

      • When you ask does it trigger you to remember what happened?
It's important to distinguish between a blackout and memory loss.

Do you ever feel like your emotions are happening to you like an event, rather than you actually going through them and experiencing them? Like you start to have an emotion, and then even though it continues, you aren't really experiencing it anymore- your body just seems to be continuing what was started?

        • yes! I definitely get that a lot! I've been angry at people, and yelled and thrown things..and it's like I'm just watching it happen, because on the inside I'm completely calm, like i feel nothing O.O

What would that be called? Or what disorder is that part of?

    Sounds like Schizophrenia to me

    • Schizophrenia doesn't cause blackouts.

    • I thought schizophrenia was only hallucinations. I haven't been hallucinating, just missing time and blanking out, excessively.

But who's to say derealization is not reality in its own? I look around sometimes and get a surreal affect.

I know sometimes I have mentioned to people that life is all just in our heads and we create scenarios that play out however we choose to play them. I have had some very weird coincidences that I find hard to believe just happened. But I have never had any black outs. That parts is troubling. But then is it, maybe it is part of this scenario.

I don't think life's real either. I've experienced this feeling many times (and still do now as I type). No one knows if everything's a illusion or everything's real. It's a mystery that only becomes clear when one dies (if death is even real).

You are but a figment of someone's imagination. Nothing you see, hear or feel is real, it is all made up in someone else's mind. Perhaps your 'someone' got sick and wasn't able to maintain your scenario, so you were 'blacked out' for a few days.
    Sound about right?

    • Yeah, that's not funny. Because i know i exist, it's just it feels like i don't. What if i actually believed that, its not nice to fuck with peoples head when they're obviously experiencing some trouble.

I totally agree with you but then some people either don't care or don't think about the effect of their words on someone asking for help. Try not to take any notice of them or the ones diagnosing you with schizophrenia: there are idiots everywhere and IIN is no exception.

Have you been using weed or other drugs? Is your diet OK? Is there any pattern to these occurrences? eg when you're tired or stressed.

If it's getting worse - more intense and/or more frequently - I'd be talking to yr GP.

        • I have taken drugs but not recently, so i don't think that's the problem. Especially since these problems occurred before i took drugs.
Although once i took some form of synthetic cannabis that caused me to become several people in the sense that i would switch between all three really fast forgetting everything every time. The entire experience seemed to consist of remembering where i was...bang bang bang..like that...it was a bit like breaking up on a telephone where each part of me would get a separate part of the message...but none were connected.
Another similar experience on drugs was where my perception of things was split in three, like i would move my arm, and i would see three of them, they would kinda follow on after each other, sifting through each other like sand.
Another weird part of the experience which happens to be a bit irrelevant is that: i would touch someone or something, and i would sift through them in the same way that i would myself.

I sort of feel like my experience on drugs was an over exaggeration of what I'm like normally.
Like i forget things and remember where i am, only getting parts of it. And The black out was kinda like i just remembered where i was and that i had no recollection, but maybe another part of me is getting it.
