Not sure whether to name my son after my father?

My dad was a wonderful man. I looked up to him and he was always there for me, especially when no one else was. As I understand it, his father was a horrible one, in multiple ways which need not to be said. (For the record, I never met him, since he never showed interest, I was only told about the events.) So, my dad made sure he did everything that would help me grow up the right way: being loved, nurtured, prepared for the world. And it worked out, since I can say I'm pretty level-headed and get along well with my family and people around me. That's the short of the story, and I'm currently pregnant with a baby boy. My father has unfortunately passed already, and I really want to name the baby after him. The problem is that my dad's name is the name of his father, so consequently, my dad never liked the name at all. I might even be able to say that he hated it. I feel as though by trying to honor my father, I might also be disappointing him in some way. If I name my son with my father in mind, does it not matter that the name was linked to the father before him? Or should I name my son something else meaningful? Thank you to everyone who votes/comments.

If you believe in a spiritual life after death, he still observes you. Name your son after him. Finally give him a reason to love and be proud of his own name.

Your dad was a good guy and thats all that matters - not what happened before. You aren't naming him after your grandfather. Just go with your gut on this one. Don't over think it.

A little long on words, but a good answer none the less.
