Not pregnant, my nipples squirt milk?

When I squeeze my nipples, milk comes out. Not a whole lot of milk, but a droplet or two. This started a couple of years ago and saw a doctor about it originally but she dismissed it.

However, the other day I squeezed my nipples and milk squirted out, sprayed over my lap. It's still not a lot of milk, certainly not enough to feed anything, but it seems to be more than it was when I first noticed?

I do squeeze my nipples practically every day. Could that contribute to it? I've been squeezing them since I first hit puberty, though, and the milk thing only started a few years ago. I'm 28 years old and I've never been pregnant, and I know I'm not pregnant now.

So...is this normal?

That's perfectly normal if you've been stimulating your nipples frequently: women who've never been pregnant have been able to establish breastfeeding of adopted babies

I believe they usually have hormonal injections for that, as it is far quicker and more likely to work.

Edit: looks like it's not quicker, my mistake. Just raises the likelihood of success.

This practice has been around a lot longer than hormone injections, but I guess they could improve the success rates

I'm aware of that. I'm talking about the current day.

It could be a few less common factors possible and I would see the doctor about it again . I know primarily , breast feeding woman will develop milk however you can induce lactation with stimulation of the breast frequently . I do not know if playing with your nipples lightly would be sufficient . I think a lot more curious things have happened in life so it's possible but in any case , it's not dangerous but go seek a doctor as always with any unknown experiences in the body . I think it's pretty neat , I think white milks vibrant milky color looks attractive on a woman's breast / coming from it but that's a different note .. I apologize , I mean to say .. don't feel embarrassed .
best of luck , update us :)

Are you taking any psychiatric medications? Some psychiatric meds including antipsychotics can induce lactation. That happened to me but it went away after I began taking birth control to regulate my hormones (I'm not sexually active - with other people anyway...)

    • I'm taking celexa, buspar, baclofen, and tenex. Not sure if those would have lactation as a side effect, but its something that I'll (awkwardly) ask my psychiatrist next appointment.

I'm not familiar with any of those medications but I wouldn't be surprised if one of them was the culprit. It's a good idea to talk to your psychiatrist about it, even if it is awkward. I didn't tell my psychiatrist about my lactation and I wound up having to have blood work and an MRI because of my highly elevated prolactin levels. All of those tests could have been avoided if I had been honest from the beginning.

    • Was going to ask the same question. Same thing happened to me definitely not fun.

I'm no doctor and my nipples are pretty much nonfunctional, but from what I've heard about induced lactation, it does seem plausible that squeezing your nipples every day could have that effect. Although it that amount of stimulation, would usually be enough, I don't think.

Umm, I mean *wouldn't* usually be enough. Of course... I don't actually know how often you're going it.

It's not "normal" but not uncommon. Believe it or not, some men can lactate too.

Isn't nipple discharge sometimes a symptom of cancer?
