Not having social life is making it hard for me to get over heartbreak

I am in my early 30s and don't really have a social life. I go to the gym but do nothing on Friday/Saturday nights for example. I have just had my heart broken and am finding it difficult to deal with. Apart from gym, I don't have any other hobbies... I live with a housemate but she has a boyfriend and is out most of the time.

What do people do to feel less lonely in difficult times?

Try to get in back in touch with your old friends from college, high school or other previous times. If that fails, try to get to know your co-workers better or people at a place of worship (if you attend one).
Frankly, all the masturbation, nature walks, movie marathons, etc. cannnot mask lonliness. Lonliness is what it is and it makes it hard to get over a relationship. Also, one usually needs to socialize in order to get into another relationship.

Find some hobbies! How about karaoke? You could sing "I Will Survive" by Gloria Gaynor, and make cool friends while doing it.
