Normal to accept cows, pigs, and chickens being slaughtered but not sheep?

I don't mind as much cows, pigs, and chickens being slaughtered at the slaughterhouses, as long as they're stunned first and don't suffer pain, but I can't stand the idea of sheeps or lambs being slaughtered at all, even if they're stunned first. I was watching some videos of sheep and lambs running and frolicking around and they are just cute and playful, always enjoying themselves having fun, running, playing, jumping around, licking people's hands, so innocent and affectionate too. I've seen slaughterhouse videos of all farm animals now, just outta curiosity. I just can't bear the thought now of sheep and lambs being killed for food. I'll keep eating beef, pork, and chicken, but no more lamb. Are my thoughts on all this normal?

  • You've seen more of the cute side of sheep, and now you like them. So it's perfectly normal that you wouldn't want to support their suffering and dying.

I'd guess that if you watched cute videos of other farm animals, you'd start to think similarly of them.

Feeling pity and having compassion are just normal aspects of being human.

    • I don't support suffering of any animal. I can accept the slaughtering of farm animals as long as they're stunned and don't suffer. I just can't accept lambs or sheep at all, even if they're stunned.

      • Can you verify whether an animal has been stunned or not somehow?

        • Most slaughterhouses now have strict policies about animals having to be stunned 100% unconscious right before their throats are slit. In a way, it's like people getting anesthesia before an operation and not feeling or being aware of the doctor cutting into you. If it's done right, the animals die before they even begin to regain consciousness from the stunner so they're never being aware of what's happening to them. There have been a few slaughterhouses which have broken the rules and are under investigation. Unfortunately, I have read how US laws are not very strict about killing farm animals, even when the stunning rules have not always been followed 100%. The law doesn't look at animal cruelty towards farm animals in the same way as towards domesticated animals like cats and dogs. I don't want to know anybody who has harmed any cats or dogs.

Would you eat horse? The only reason people don't (knowingly) eat horse nowadays is because christians thought of it as 'pagan food'.

    • Horse is still served in fine restaurants throughout France. Dog is street food throughout Asia.

      • I can't accept horses being slaughtered either, and I'll never forgive those Koreans for eating cats and dogs.

        • Horse meat was commonly sold to unsuspecting customers as “beef” throughout Europe during WW2. Dog consumption is celebrated in China as a festival, but the government is trying to tone down advertising it. Humans will eat anything if they're hungry enough.

Humans have eaten just about every animal there is, they've eaten insects in parts of Africa. They've also eaten other humans in certain African tribes. In Africa, people have eaten monkeys, elephant, and just about anything else.

Turkeys used to be seen as gods and were bred to accompany people to the afterlife, now everyone eats them. Suppose people can eat what they like xD

        • Turkeys are nasty, unless on a platter with stuffing and gravy. :)

  • Pigs are as at least as intelligent as dogs, the rest aren’t. You honor the animal (and be thankful) by eating every part of it you can and don’t waste what you do cook.
Lamb has been food for humans for thousands of years. Goats are cool too, but a lot of cultures eat them.

Goats are more closely related to lambs and sheep than any other farm animal.

    • Sheep are also the most gentle and loving of all farm animals. Pigs and cattle have been known to bite and attack people, but sheep haven't, which is another reason I'm more against the idea of slaughtering sheep than pigs and cattle.
