Normal that my mouth is this swollen from my wisdom teeth removal?

I had my wisdom teeth removed yesterday and I was put under general anesthesia. I was expecting a swollen mouth, and the pain, and all that. But when I saw myself in the mirror I noticed the corner of my mouth was bruised and bloody. I thought it was dry blood, but it's not. It's looks like my veins popped from maybe pulling my cheek for so long, but I don't think this is normal. It was my right upper and lower wisdom teeth that were removed, and my friend had this same procedure done but her cheeks didn't look bruised. Is this normal?

  • I had a procedure like that done and it was pretty horrific, but if you're worried about it you need to talk to your oral surgeon about it... not us.

Just hope it is not dry sockets, that sucks.

You should def get it looked at. Soon as you can. Could be nothing, but you don't want to take a chance with your mouth like that.
    God, that's gotta hurt.

I'd say normal. If you're worried, your dentist/oral surgeon would be happy to check it out for you (if you can stand to have your mouth touched) it's a pretty brutal thing. I only had 3 wisdom teeth (2 impacted), but I remember waking up and feeling like.... I can't even explain. My whole face was swollen to the max and I couldn't open or close my mouth because they had my jaw cranked open for so long.
Luckily it all heals quickly, mine did within 2 weeks. Give it another few days before you stress.

Depending on how good your surgeon was determines the amount of swelling. Give it a few days. If it's still worrisome go get it looked at. :)

I got lucky I had all of mine removed and was fine.

This acquaintance of mine had four of hers removed. Was given pain killers, but her mouth is still bleeding. I've never had it done, but I've a few baby teeth removed. There was blood, but the bleeding didn't last for days on end. rising with salt water might help, but I think you should still see a doctor.

They literally jack your mouth open (like a car jack), which can stretch the muscles and mouth a little too much. I looked like I had a blue circle around my mouth, and I got waaaay swollen, but it goes by the end of a week. You'll be sore for a while, completely normal.

Keep chapstick on to keep your lips moist, it'll help the healing. And it never hurts to call and ask the oral surgeon.
