Normal or obsessive behavior?

Okay so I have a friend who is a male, but not my boyfriend. However he's made it obvious that he likes me as more than a friend. I went on one date with him, because you know, life's too short to not take chances and I thought maybe I'd start to like him as more than a friend, but I'm not really feeling it. I told him I wasn't ready for the next level and he said "works for me." He's nice and all but I'm starting to wonder if he's too attached. Every day when he's not at work, he texts me at least twice a day (sometimes at like 6am when I'm sleeping) and all he says is "hey what's up." Sometimes I don't reply because I don't have much to say. Other times I'll reply, and I'm nice but not flirty-nice. I'll be like "my day is going good, what about you?" And he always says things like "I wish I was there with ya" or "wish you were in my arms" or "wish I had a cuddle buddy." He asked to hang out this week but I had stuff to do (that wasn't a lie, I really did). He didn't even say what he wanted to do though, he just said he wants to see me. I don't dislike him at all, I'm just hoping he gets the hint that I'm trying to slow it down. My question is, is it normal that he texts and Facebook messages me so often and talks about cuddling? Or is he becoming obsessed?
