I work in an inner city, not a large one but large enough. Unfortunately a lot of blacks. Why do so many black women wear wigs, wigs of every hair color from red to blonde to just about anything while white women never wear "dreadlock wigs"? Why do blacks, particularly the women, wish to look white, while white women have no need to look black AT ALL?
Why do you care? Why "unfortunately" a lot of black people?
If you don't know the historical reasons why some black people choose to try and look white, you are very ignorant. It's the same reason most women who got into positions of power had to be "one of the boys" to be accepted, a member of an oppressed group pretending to resemble the group with the power over them in order ot be accepted. Not rocket science if you turn your brain on
You have to look at history and think about where the desire for "straighter hair" originated. Blacks had to go through a form of assimilation just like immigrant groups had to. We were taught to hate our features especially our hair and unfortunately think that straighter hair is beautiful by the media and the workforce made it another reason to not hire us. This has had lasting affects on black families and especially the women. While I do agree that some black women do want to imitate white women because of self hatred I would not say that all black women that wear weaves want to be white. For most it's become a style preference and an alternative look. And as for the "white women don't wear dreadlocks wigs" there are white women that wear black hairstyles such as actual dreadlocks, box braids and cornrows.It's a style choice for them just as much as its a style choice for black women to wear weaves.
You may not have meant it to be racist, but it sure comes across as racist. That you'd even come up with the question shows that you do not think of both groups to be equal.
Probably because both groups aren't equal, and never will be. You'd think a swarthy, sailing man of your age and wisdom would see that by now. Instead you just regurgitated politically correct nonsense.

Black people's hair is a lot harder to maintain than white people's hair. They have to do braids or get a weave for it to be neat and tidy (unless they want an Afro).
