It is incredibly sad to watch something 800 years old, that withstood wars, revolutions, etc, destroyed in hours before our eyes. The awe inspiring hand craftsmanship will never be replaced. Part of the awe when viewing it was trying to imagine them building it with the tools and technology of their time.
Sure they can rebuild it with modern materials, but it'll be kind of like looking at a computer scan of the Mona Lisa.
It's a massive tragedy! I hate to sound like an invalidating jerk, but it could have been worse.
I am praying for the people of Paris, France of course.
How about a new roof with superior 21st century acoustic properties. Choirs will sound simply divine as if the splendor of heaven is present in spirit.
It is a shame,as it has so much history and has survived so much! So sad, but the news said they've been able to save alot that was in safe keeping. I like what one of the church members said..."Just as the cross was'nt the final word for Jesus,so will this fire not be the final word for Notre Dame. Hearts and prayers to Paris!!
I don’t blame you, it’s a tragedy. The only consolation is that the structure was saved and President Macron vowed to rebuild it. A reconstruction will never be the same as the original though.
how mucha the wooden part is original anyhow?
the building can easily be rebuilt same as the original but the art and such contents inside are fucked
The top area known as "the forest" has been completely destroyed. They called it the forest because it took a forest worth of trees to build. It was the oldest part of the structure if I'm not mistaken and was built in the 11th century. So that aged wood is irreplaceable in a sense. Im sure they will rebuild it to wondrous condition again, but it wont be the same, nor will some of the areas, such as "the forest" hold nearly as much gravity when you look at it, no longer will be the nearly thousand year old wood.
shows what i know
i couldnt imagine wood structure lastin that long
i needta hire them to build my next roof
some of it had been replaced over the years but if I'm not mistaken a lot of it was incredibly old/original. I heard recently that they actually don't even have large enough trees in all of France to replace some of the wooden beams ...they will have to import new large lumber. funny to think that large growth trees don't even exists in France anymore... like they did when they built the thing.
Yes, it's normal to cry over the Notre Dame tragedy. Almost a millinieum's worth of structure has gone to ashes. It is indeed an irreperable loss for all of us. Let's hope they rebuild the cathedral soon.
Not tears, just disappointed at the loss, it's on the same amount of disipointment that a terrorist attack killing 50 people would do to me.
