Normal for shop assistant to wander around the store doing nothing

I recently got a unpaid work experience "job" at a pet shop.
I do only what im told to do however when my supervisor is busy and ive completed my task I have no idea what to do other than just stand and wait for the next task or just wander around the store aimlessly.
This doesn't impress the boss (not my supervisor) who in a few weeks will decide if he wants to employ me.
I also suffer from severe social anxiety. I really need to get this job.

I had a job like that once. I think you need to ask if there's anything else you can do OR clean up/organize anything you see. Just act busy no matter what whenever you see them nearby.

Echo the comment above - just look busy, if you're out on the floor you could be "facing-up" (making sure the products all face the front) and general tidying. Put on your "happy and approachable mask" (I suffer from SAD too) and ask if there's anything else you can help with, show up early and be the last one to leave (show you really want the job).
