Normal for a manager to be insensitive?

People at my job have told me that my manager tends to be two-faced and talks behind people's backs. This makes me uneasy being around her because I dislike people like this. I wonder if she is talking about me sometimes. Also she was rude when I told her about the correct pronunciation of my name and she said that she does that to everyone, and that people call her Ali and her name is Allie...Marquez, Marcus what's the difference? (name is Marquez). I felt like telling her "What do you mean what's the difference?" "It's not my name!" but since she is my manager I held my tongue. What do I do in the future if she continues to mispronounce my name? Do I just deal with it? Because she obviously just doesn't care. However, one day she did pronounce my name correctly, but the following day went right back to mispronouncing it.

Getting people's names wrong on purpose is pure passive-aggressive behavior. You're right; she's rude as hell. Unfortunately, none of your options for dealing with it are great. You can just deal with having a jerk boss -- lots of people do -- or you can risk her animosity by correcting her on your name again. You can get in touch with her supervisor or with your company's HR department if she's really obnoxious, but that doesn't always produce any measurable results. You can look for another job.

I feel for you. She's a jackass for intentionally getting your name wrong after being told how it's pronounced.

I wouldn't want to work for a prick like that. My name is spelled Stephen and I find it insensitive of people calling Me Steffen, that's not what My mother called Me She called Me Steven. When they make reference to the Saint they use the spelling Stephen not Steven.

    Step 1. Work really hard.
Step 2.Be the best worker there.
Step 3.Threaten to quit if she does not stop disrespecting you.
    Step 4.Rinse and repeat.

I really do not understand why you are so upset by this. How do you know she does it to be mean? I mean if she mispronounces it maybe she is just reading it wrong. You should not be so sensitive. Second being two face is not something a manager should have. It is not productive and I think that is abusive. Also how reliable are these sources? They might just be bad workers and if the manager ever sets you up tell her boss. Have you ever met foreigners learning a new language? I know you might think you are so entitled but some people might mispronounce a few words or a few names. You really do not have to be such a bitch about it.

Gah, I hate dealing with supervisors that are about as mature as your average 6th grader. It makes me wonder what the hell they even did to get that job. It seems especially true in fast food and the retail industry and I can't tell you how frustrating it is to deal with a supervisor like that. I don't have to. You already know.

Seems nowadays it's normal, sadly. When I was a young manager, we were taught to respect and value our employees, and thy inturn would do their very best for us. Now the norm is squeeze the most out of them for as little as possible, and if they quit, replace them with temps. We haven't gotten a raise in 6 years, but the big muckie-mucks gave themselves $56,000 in bonuses.

  • give her a nickname, only refer to her as this and very soon everyone will use it and forget it came from you

Bad idea. No need to provoke her. Some people are just jerks, and as long as she's your boss you have to live with it. Just don't let it get under your skin - and if it does, don't let her see that it gets under your skin.
