No one waits for anyone anymore...

Is it normal that I get really upset over the fact that no one waits for anyone anymore? I feel like in the past, for the most part, in an age before internet, people in relationships waited for each other longer, even if they had to rely on letters. I listen to stories from the world war eras and for the most part, those men and women would've waited forever for their loved ones to come home, whereas today, people just make promises and then when they see someone that interests them, goes ahead and cheats. Have I watched too many period dramas or what?

Well I'll give you guys some hope out there.. Im of the younger generation I suppose (just turned 29) and three years ago I met my future wife, she served me my coffee next door to where I worked :) .. i asked her out, and she said yes, come to find she was already well on her way to getting her things in order and moving back home to the mid west about a 1000 miles away in just three months. Well the date went great and despite the constant elephant in the room, we continued to date the entire three months. Needless to say we fell in love and the day she moved was agonizing :( we where apart nearly a year and just kept in touch through email and phone and text. But she was worth the wait and I had some financial issues to take care of that prevented me from moving right away but long story short I made the decision to give away most of my modest possessions and pack whatever I could fit into my two door escort lol and drive the 1000 miles in the dead of winter to start a new life with her. And now this May we will be married :)

Really i just think its the technology of today. I mean we no longer have to wait for anything when we dont want to, a lot of people like things quick and easy. Now, thats also changed into wanting a relationship. "I want you now...not later. Because later im going to want something else."

I don't feel that way at all and Iove to wait, just let it build! Technology does make everything just way to easy.

I can't really agree with you more. Cheating went on in those times too. It did happen. But there was less selfishness than today, less need for immediacy. Less need for "Fuck you. I need to be happy right now. I don't care about anything. Make me happy. Now. Now. Now."

Ahh, but I have returned. It is the Second Coming!

And I'm going to resist the temptation to use the dirty pun an older woman told me in my first ever job when I was just a wee teen.

lol, I used to work at a box office kind of thing and she walked past my box office in one direction and then minutes later came back (but not from the direction she'd gone in, but the direction she'd first come from). I said, "wow, it's the second coming" and she said, "Yeah, one with each hand". She was naughty.

Thats perfectly normal! People in this day and age are too occupied with technology and used to getting things instantaneously that they don't want to wait for anything anymore, much less people. Its a shame, really. Call me old fashioned, but if I really loved somebody I would wait for them until the end of time if I had to. I would never want anybody else.

There's too much media, technology, people, etc., these days than there used to be. Most people aren't patient at all anymore. If you don't get it right the first time you're going to have a hard time catching up with those who do, or so it seems.

I moved to the other side of the country. I've been here for almost 7 months. I'm planning on returning in 5 months, so I would be gone for a year. My best friend is waiting for my return, and told me he wakes up knowing its one day closer to me going home. I send him letters every month and call him when he's free. It's not much since he's only a friend, but I often think he's too good for me and I'm happy he'll still be there when I go home.

  • I think the media and technology are to blame for this. Now that we have convenient and high speed gadgets, we lose our patience. Thus, we lose patience when tolerating a partner. As for the media, they just glorify sex and rarely show the good humans do in this world. It sucks but there are some people out there who care about love and growing with their partner, you just have to look for them.
