No emotion provoked from watching people die.

I've recently been on YouTube, and accidently stumbled up videos of people committing suicide. I, myself, am not feeling suicidal, and I never have, it was just a natural curiosity to view the video, and I had never seen anyone die on camera. At first, I was a little apprehensive and nervous to watch the videos, given the subject matter, but, eventually, I forced myself to. I was slightly disturbed, and I put heavy emphasis on the word slightly, but overall, I displayed no emotion towards the videos, and they were quite graphic.

I'm a regular gamer, and I frequently play games where the object is to kill people; could possibly they have desensitized me?

Huge difference between real life and videos.

    You mean "evoked".

    • Sorry, nomenclature Nazi, but besides being off-topic, you should actually check the definition of the words you use.

Provoke refers to an emotion, evoke refers to a thought.

From Google: provoke: stimulate or give rise to ( a reaction or emotion) in someone.

Evoke: bring or recall to the conscious mind.

Usually when someone refers to something stirred within themselves they use "evoked" to modify the emotion and provoke is used to modify the subject. Whether it's a thought or an emotion, all I've seen is "the idea/feeling was evoked within me", and "I was provoked to.../he was provoked into doing...", etc. Even your definition shows what I'm saying. In "provoke" it clearly says "in someone", so it's talking about the subject being acted upon. As for evoke, it refers to the ____ being recalled to the mind. The emotion is evoked, not the person. And the person is provoked, not the emotion/idea/thought.

Also, "evoke" mentions nothing about thoughts specifically, just of anything being brought or recalled. This could be a feeling as well. In my original comment, I was being picky, but only because it struck me as incorrect because I'd never seen it before. Maybe technically you CAN use provoke in the way you did, and I'd just never seen it. Sometimes words have a lot of rare distinctions.

As for being an off-topic, nomenclature Nazi, I'm very interested in words, they fascinate me, so I think about them a lot. I'm not trying to be mean when I correct people. I just like talking about words.

I think the general response you will get here is that you're fine, coz people here are fucked up too. Maybe you're depressed, if not you're just another malevolently neutral spectator. I am sure it's in all of us to be this way, but to actively watch stuff like that, to even click on it I think is messed up.

I can watch suicides that don't show any blood or gore, but I still feel something. Anyway, it's not abnormal. Some people simply don't feel anything. I feel nothing when I come across some of the cruel videos done to animals (like the U.S. soldier who threw a puppy and broke its neck).

You'd think youtube would take down stupid emo shit like that.
Anyhow, I play games as well don't let them interfere with my way of thinking. Sure, I can go on a killing spree in GTA but real death disturbs me.
You're probably fine, but remember that serial killers are emotionless too.
