Nightmare

First of all, you may find this extremely weird AND/OR terrifying.

I was lying on my bed till i drifted to sleep. Then, something odd happened. I wasn't really sure if i was asleep or awake, cause it felt so real. An invisible force was holding me back. My whole body couldn't move. My hands, my arms, even my legs. I could only open my eyes & see nothingness on top of me. What freaks me out the most is that I couldn't see what's on top of me. i know it because of my sheet's outline. I was fighting the 'thing' with all might but i couldn't even move a finger. Then I heard an evil laugh. I woke up, feeling my stiff body. I was positive that i was trying to move it because my muscles weren't relaxed. Even though i didn't move an inch, i felt tense at the very moment.

I'm having these nightmares almost every other night. Even so, I'm not really scared, except maybe for the laugh. So that's just about it. Is it normal?

    Sleep paralysis it's a safety mechanism so you don't sleep walk, you were simply awake during this, if happens.

    This is definitely normal. Dreams are almost always based off of whatever you're feeling or going through in your life at that moment in time. Maybe you are just a little stressed right now. Read a book or take a bath, just do something that makes you happy.

    All right, I hope I can be of help. An I apologize for the LONG-ASSED reply ahead.

    As people have said before, this is called sleep paralysis. I have looked into into sleep paralysis for two years now (not like...hunting down library books lol, just looking up info about it)

    However, it is NOT a mental disorder. It is NOT caused by ghosts or spirits or succubi/incubi or anything like that, but it can sure seem freaky. Personally I do believe in paranormal happenings, but I'll explain why that evil laugh probably isn't a ghost or demon.

    SP is just a sleeping disorder, and it can happen to anyone who is sleep-deprived, who changes up their sleeping schedule, who is experiencing stress, and heck, it could happen out of the blue just because your body accidentally wakes you up during REM (rapid eye movement.) REM is the state where your brain is the most active; the dream-state. It is also the time period where your brain triggers this paralysis of the body, so that you don't move around too much in your sleep.

    If awakened during this time period, your body will most likely not have snapped out of this paralysis state just yet, but your mind is mostly awake.

    BUT.

    During this time period, it is also VERY likely that your mind is in a lucid state.
    Lucidity is being aware that you are dreaming; like a mix between your subconscious mindset and your normal everyday thoughts.

    This is why I personally think that evil laugh comes out of your fear of the situation. You FEEL like something evil is going on...so something, somehow, in the back of your lucid subconscious mind is responding with that laugh.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Here's what I advise doing.
    First and most importantly... RELAX. It's nothing to be afraid of. I know it can be frustrating not being able to move, but it's not going to harm you. Just relax, take a deep breath, and either go right back to sleep, or try and wiggle your toes and fingers first until you feel like you can break out of it. (I can usually break out of it by trying to shake my head back and forth...that works somehow, I dunno why though)
    Secondly; since you are lucid, and the "dream state" of your brain is responding to your thoughts, try thinking of something more pleasant. Think of a hot guy or girl (I don't know which one you prefer, but you get the picture) being playful and pinning you down for fun. Convince yourself that your body is just too tired to move, and that it's got nothing to do with that "evil force" supposedly holding you down. Think of ANYthing more pleasant than some sadistic ghost that gives you nightmares.
    The biggest reason that sleep paralysis is so terrifying to a lot of people is because they PANIC.
    So I'm TELLING you; Do. Not. Panic. YOU are in control of your own mind and your own dreams. YOU can stop these experiences from being so terrifying.
    Good luck. :)
    Have a look at:http://paranormal.about.com/od/ghosthuntinggeninfo/f/faq-incubus.htm where you can start reading up on succubus/incubus attacks. The general opinion is that ultimately such attacks are harmless once we get over the whole weird-out.Personally I've experienced several including one extremely violent with an Incubus trying to rape me (i'm male) which resulted in me standing up to fight him off (not easy whilst as good as paralysed) as though fully conscious only to find myself back in bed waking afterwards as though simply from a dream. Too ffkkn spooky!If a person can get more real as opposed to virtual sex in their life it's supposed to help..
    Stop smokin blunts before you go to sleep.
    And here is a childish but good idea(for me anyways).Imagine yourself as being the most invinsible and powerful thing and you'll never be scared. Stupid idea yes, could it work, possibly.
    I did that as i was a kid and i haven't had a nightmae since. that was a good 6 years ago(when i was 7)
    The exact thing happened to me not so long ago, (except for the laughing part). I was lying in bed asleep when I was woken with the same force you described. I couldn't move at all. It felt like someone heavy lying on me weighing down my whole body, arms, legs, tummy, everything! I soon shook out of it though. I was quite scared myself when I came around but I don't think it is anything serious. It's just your dreams playing games with you. If enough people have experienced, then it must not be anything spiritual. The laugh is just when you are still dreaming, you know what crazy things people can hear in their dreams. If this keeps on happening, try something like a night light or leave your door open a crack to let some light in, it helps allot with nightmares. If this doesn't work, consider seeing a medium if you think its a ghost. Hope this helped xx
    I looked up something on this awhile back. Basically, you were awake, but not enough to have muscle control, which is why you felt paralyzed. I remember more than once being "awake" but unable to breathe, and panicking. Same thing.
    Do you believe in spirits and shit like that? I don't, but if you do it could be some kind of weird haunting. It also could just be a weird recurring nightmare brought on by stress.
      Yes, this is not normal, but it isnt a brand new thing. It's a type of mental disease, you get terrifying nightmares accompined with paralisis. See a doc.
        its not a mental disease, its called sleep paralysis many people experience it including uninsane ones. when you sleep your body renders itself imoble so you dont fall off your bed or move somewhere your not supposed to be, you can wake up abruptly when this happens and well there you go. and yes hauntings are sometimes to blame but its rare for that. it not unormal it's just what your body does as a saftey measure, so to speak
