Niece pleasuring herself - she has questions

I discovered that my 10 year old niece has found how to pleasure herself (masturbating) and has been doing this for a few years. I assured her that this was normal. She is asking more questions about masturbating, but I am not sure how, or if I should answer them. One question how she was masturbating and if she was doing it correctly. She was explaining it to me, then she wanted to show me, which I told her it wasn't right. She keeps on insisting. What do I do in this case?

    I would answer her questions but let her know why it's something private, and isn't something other people she see her do.

    Hmm, that's a tough one. Since she has told you about this, I am accepting that you two must have a close relationship. Not too many children/teenagers would confide if she/he didn't trust you and your ability to keep a secret. If you did tell her parents, this trust would be broken and probably never be repaired.

    I would tell her that doing this is a personal thing and it should be done alone in a safe place. If her friend pushes the idea, tell your niece to say that she isn't interested and focus her attention elsewhere.

    Sooner or later, Amanda will get caught by a teacher and Amanda will face the embarrassment of not only her parents finding out, but also the rest of her class and potentially most of the school. You can explain this to your niece as well.

    she's pretty young to be doing that kind of stuff. I would make sure to inform her that it is private and that it should be only with herself, just to keep her safe from trying to show you or others. Basically make it very general, tell her to do what feels right. Or, find a good, not to graphic webpage and show her it and let her read it and find out for herself
