Need more true musical talent?

Is it normal to feel we need more bands true talent today like the Foo Fighters and that I wish more straight up rock would come back and all that gay techno would die already because face it none of these peole really have any talent and would never have accomplished anything without auto tune. If you do feel different on this subject don't try to bash me because this is just what I feel and it cannot be changed.

True talent is out there. It's just not being mass-marketed in the same way someone like Justin Bieber or an American Idol winner is.

I voted yes but I love gorillaz, do they count as talent?

Because straight up rock got boring, and the only way to give it mass appeal was to make everything emo in the mid 2000s. The only good rock bands left are the ones who dared to be different like the killers, foxy shazam, coheed, and maybe the occasional small band. For the most part after about 2002 the majority of new rock was really bad and started falling to mass appeal, which made every rocker say "WTF the point is to be different, not have every band go in the same direction and fail as they lose their individuality by caring more about sales than about music."

I live in NYC and there is no more modern rock station, the last remaining rock station is classic rock 15 or more years old. Born and raised with rock in my heart and soul; I'm beginning to wonder if rock is going to be completely overtaken by all the generics of rap, dance, and pop for good...I hope not because 85% of musical talent is actually being able to play an instrument, not just pay someone to program a computer for fart repetitively for three and a half minutes.

All the mainstream music sounds the same, is based around sex and has no taste.

  • Well most people don't have good taste (or even if they did it might differ from your preferences)...so good bands or whatever might be out there but they dont sell much
just because we cant see them doesnt mean they dont exist
    lulz

  • I just got in an argument with someone over this. JUST BECAUSE the foo fighters are an extremely popular band, doesn't exactly mean they are talented. (they are, don't get me wrong) but music is NOT a popularity contest. people over look that sooo much. it's bullshit. the most talented artists around are usually very lowkey in the music industry.

  • You should try being a poptimist like me, I guarantee you'll feel much better about the current state of music.

Auto tunes is crap. I don't know how a supposed artist can use auto tunes and respect themselves as a musician.

There is a vast number of music genres and styles out there (plus you can mix them all resulting in infinite epicness) and each has bad/good artists.

As for talent I only care about like/not like. I don't know what is 'talent' to you? For me it doesn't exists. Fun, feel and practice is all you need.

This could sound a little strange, but I don't really care about musical talent. As long as a band can play it's instruments live, I am more interested in how the music is written and the lyrical themes than how good the musicians are.

For example, I am perfectly willing to admit that Billie Joe Armstrong from Green Day is neither an especially talented singer or guitarist, but I can relate to his band's lyrics. Similarly, I find a lot of pop-punk bands fun and catchy, although I'll happily admit that they are appauling musicians and the lyrics are rubbish as well.

There are a lot of bands with great technical ability and musicianship, but if I find them dull and uninspiring then I'm not interested.

Well done. I agree. And funny you mentioned green day, I was a teen when they came out and I didn't mind them, but I didn't think they would last either. I was wrong, and I still don't mind them :)

    it's true.

    autotuning should be banned.
mainstream pop and rnb is crap.

all I-IV-V-VI progressions, which is REAL original.
