That's unhealthy man, 2 hours a day and 4500 calories? I'd gain on 1500 and I exercise! You'd need lots more exercise to burn that off. And what do you mean by healthy slim? Is that just another way to say "big-boned" aka obese?

If you're extremely extremely active, you should eat 2000-2500, not more. No one would ever recommend more than 2500 as it's bad.

2500 calories is kind of the top of the normal range for active men or nursing moms. If you are a body builder, that number is different but I know little about body building. If you truly require that much to survive and you aren't gaining weight, you may have a parasite. It would be best to discuss your caloric needs with a doctor or nutritionist.

Idk that seems like a lot.
but as a guy you need about 2500 calories a day.
now if you are exercising it all depends on what type of exercises you are doing. Different exercises can burn different amount of calories in an hour.
Veggies and fruits depending on what type can be low calorie ...you would have to eat more to gain weight on them.

Are you looking to gain weight or maintain weight?

Forget everything everyone else just wrote, 2500 calories is for a very average man and that amount of calories split correctly between carbs fats protein is enough for about 65% of the population. If your taller than average then this means you will have more cells which are metabolically active, if you have more muscle mass then again you will have more cells which are even more metabolically active than fat cells, if you exercise frequently you are increasing your metabolism, if you are weight training then the anabolism is a very high metabolic process. Hell even eating more increases your basal metabolic rate.

If you aren't eating a lot of fat then there is no way you are actually going to get over weight, carbs are not converted into fat in the human body, the mechanism how this can occur takes more energy than it produces and as such will only happen in very rare circumstances. Just eat healthy and don't worry about calorie counting, its almost useless.

      What?
Having too many calories from carbs can make you fat.
eating too much fruit and vegetables can make you fat.... you can pretty much get fat on anything if you are overeating by too much.

Calorie counting is not useless... you can loose or gain or maintain your weight by counting calories.
however I must add in that not all calories are equal. Calories from cake will be different then calories from a fruit salad. And quality of food does play a part.
but too much of a good thing can be a bad thing.

Its best to get a variety of good foods from all the food groups and not over eat.

Carbs in the form of starch/glucose promote fat storage due to insulin release however carbs themselves are very rarely converted to lipids in the body, the process is called lipogenesis and it happens either if a person hardly has any fat available or if they carb load excessively for quite a few days and their muscles are saturated with glycogen. Carbs proteins and fats are all completely different molecules, they don't just magically convert into one or the other.

If you eat more carbs than you burn for energy... your body will store them as fat.
You cant just magically eat a shit ton of fruit/veggies and say well it wasnt a slice of bread! And keep eating like you wont get fat off it.
im not saying you wont get fatter from eating bread then you would a healthier choice ... such as maybe choosing fruit as a snack rather then a muffin.
Im saying your advice can be dangerous...saying there is no way they could get fat from a ton of carbs. That is not a good diet plan and can make many people sick.

With that said everyone's body is different.... and this might actually work for you... but dont throw it out there like everyone should eat shit ton of carbs and little to no fat.

Stores them as glycogen not fat, fairly basic science.

Im sorry I should have worded it better glycogen gets stored in your fat cells.
too much glycogen can cause you to be overweight :D

So dont go around telling people to eat as much as they want...k?

Aren't you like...a science guy whose work was heavily based in nutrition? And gym training? Or am I remembering that wrong? I'm almost certain it was something like that.

So I find it hilarious that you're thumbed down for shit you actually have sound knowledge on.

Obviously there's no one size fits all for diet and exercise, but generally speaking, I'd place more emphasis on anything you had to say about either of those than most people on here.

My nutrition knowledge comes from a mix of biochemistry and physiology, everything I taught people while doing nutrition has come from published studies with sound scientific basis.
People don't fully understand metabolism and calories especially personal trainers and the like so a lot of mis-information is out there.

4500 calories seems a little hard core to "need to survive" as you say . I don't think anyone needs that much just to exist but .. I suppose stranger phenomenon's have occurred in life?

Large slim? Lol I guess I'd describe myself the same way, but would expect people wouldn't take me seriously.

Seems pretty high. But if you're healthy and not gaining weight, you may either a) just have a very high metabolism, and/or b) are counting calories wrong and actually consuming less than you think. Go online, google "Harris Benedict equation" and do the calculations to figure out what your daily intake should be. Your real intake need may differ from the result, but probably not by any more than 500+/- calories.

You have a lot more body burning calories than most as well as more physical activity than most but as long as you aren't suffering any health issues I wouldn't be concerned.
