Get her to a doctor! She could have sleep apnea, especially if she is overweight. The person's airway can become occluded and they stop breathing for a few seconds. I have a friend who had a sleep study performed and he stopped breathing 71 times in a night! This is easily remedied with a c-pap machine and no more snoring. Or it could be as simple as a deviated septum. Simple outpatient surgery, problem solved. Good luck
If your wife is still keeping you up with her snoring, it might be time to try Medtronic’s Pillar Procedure, a simple and minimally invasive outpatient treatment. Check it out – http://www.pillarprocedure.com!
I snore awfully loud, too. My better half sleeps in our granddaughter's old bedroom with a white noise machine. We both get our sleep. I did have a procedure done, but no good. However, a doctor suggested that I have my tonsils removed, since those can be a huge source of noise when snoring. There's a new procedure that is much more efficient and safer to remove tonsils. It's called COBLATION; ask your doctor about it. Best to you both.
Much as activecatcow described, there are things that are over the counter that you can buy to open up the airways. If that still doesn't help you could talk to you and ask if she will attend a sleep clinic.
There are these things that go people put into their mouths and leave it in when they sleep and it opens the air ways so they dont snore.
You could try all those things and they may work but she really needs to discuss this with her doctor. He can take a look (ears nose and throat) and see if there is a minor problem. He may also have her do a sleep study which may prove to show more serious problems such as sleep apnea. Good luck!
Tonsils catch stuff like strep throat, swine flu, and other stuff you don't want so that your body can fight it there rather than some vital organ.
The removal of them increases the chance of getting complications from being sick.
