My weirdest punishment, normal ?

When i was 8 in the late 80s i accidentally broke our neighbour's car window when i was playing outside with my sister!

My mom heard it and went outside crazy and dragged me inside the house and starting shouting at me , i had such a bad attitude that it ended with her taking off my shorts and spanking me on my butt ,when she was done i wasnt crying and i told her that it didnt hurt (that was stupid of me ) so she became even angrier then she said "oh now im not strong enough to discipline you ? Well i know who is!!" At that moment i didnt understand that because my parents are divorced but then she went to put on her shoes then came back to me and dragged me from my ear outside the house i started shouting that i was half naked she said she didnt care , we live on the countryside in france there was no one around but then we reached the house of the next door neighbour that i broke his car window , it was a 10 second walk ,and after my mom rang the bell i started crying i was so humiliated being dragged down the sidewalk from my ear with a red butt and naked from the belly button and down.

If you have ever been pulled by your ear you know that u cant do anything but put ur hands on ur ear to keep it in place so i couldnt cover up with my hands at all.

Our neighbour was a 60 year old man that lived on his own and his first reaction when he open his door and saw me crying with my mom was "why is your daughter half naked in the street !" My mom explained that she was punishing for braking his window and asked him to send her the repair bill, and that she wants him to discipline me!

He got a little angry for his window but he wasnt surprised the my mom asked him to do this .

My mom then let go of my ear and pushed me into his house and said " when you send her back dont give her anything to cover up" then she left !

I was a very shy girl and was dying from the inside , after that he left me in his house alone to go check his car and when he came back the punishment started , he said it wasnt so bad and that hes only going to spank the bottom of my feet not my butt since im not his daughter

he was like the closest male adult we knew in that neighbourhood

Now that i have kids of my own i look back at this and think of how that was good for me ( specially that it fixed my bad attitude)

So i wanna ask was this normal even for the 1980s and how should i discipline my kids and how do you do it ?
