My view on gifts. iin?

Here is what I think about gifts in a relationship.

I want to give a present to the person I like, because I WANT to. But if the other person expects me to shower him/her with gifts, I lose the interest in giving them. I want to give presents because I want to, not because otherwise I'd be seen as a bad partner.

I've seen couples, who EXPECT each other to make a lot of gifts on all occasions. It makes me sick to my stomach.

I hope that everyone can see the difference between "wanting to make gifts" and "having to make gifts".

Is my view on giving gifts normal?

I agree with you. Not just in relationships, either. I want to give people I care about gifts, purely because I care about them. That's just how I think love should be - not based on 'because I have to' or 'and now you owe me'.

My grandmother is very focused on the 'and now you owe me' aspect. She does genuinely love us, and gives us all way too much, but there IS an expectation of us to then owe her the world. It irks me. I want to give and do things for people purely because I love them. Is that such a bad thing??? Bah.

I agree, another thing that is important for me is that it has to be a good gift.
