My therapist wants me to regress

I go to therapy. I am a girl. My therapist says I should regress into an infant, she wants me to lie on her couch and for her to feed me a bottle, and stuff like that, I'm scared, but then I also want to do it because someteimes I feel like a little baby, and at home I use a paci sometimes or I suck my thumb, I was abused as a kid, is it normal for a therapist to ask you to regress?

A little weird if you ask me. No offence, but that infantilism fetish comes to mind. Does she offer EMDR or hypnotism?
If it makes you uncomfortable, tell her. There are certainly other methods to "unlock" regressed memories.

She does do EMDR and not sure about hypnosis but I don't like the idea of hypnotherapy but maybe EMDR

So, you are okay with doing regression with her?

      • This does not sound like a normal treatment, and it's actually a bit disturbing.

There is nothing wrong with having an inner child. People shouldn't have to act mature all the time and should be able to express their inner child without being judged. I still like cartoons and games and wouldn't want to grow out of things I liked as a kid.

Infantism fetish is when an adult wants another adult to dress up as a toddler. So they can feed and change them. The person acting like a toddler also enjoys being treated like a baby and dressed in baby clothes. Its a type of fetish and is suppose to get sexual arousal from the participants.

Why can't she do EMDR on you, instead of this questionable request? As far as I know, "normal" EMDR doesn't entail this.

This is a therapeutic treatment which is considered weird in the psychological industry. A therapist must never do something a client is uncomfortable with.

Just say no but if the therapist insist then flee and threaten to call police.

    Don't do it.

Don't ever do that shit, it can leave traces in your psyche and is harmful to it in general.

Tell your therapist to fuck herself.

Does she also want you to wear a diaper? If so, does she expect you use it and then, like a parent, will change you?

No she doesn't want me to wear a diaper just to become like an infant in session for part of a session or two

Whatever your view on use of methods called regression for the purpose "recovering" memories, I would opine that it's unfair to make that statement of your conclusion without more information about this specific therapist's rationale or goals. I use the quotes partly to acknowledge your viewpoint as leaving them out would make it seem as though I was trying to make a stronger statement in favor of this practice when in fact I don't have a strong opinion at this point either way and haven't done the research to justify making an evaluation for myself. It kind of sounds to me like determining symptom origins are not an issue here and that the idea is to do this as a way to aid in pushing for resolution of emotional or cognitive patterns tied to an earlier developmental state. Personally, I don't see any reason this would be as problematic or uncertain as the other scenario.

Doesn't sound to bad, i mean its not like shes gonna feed you through her own breast. Right? We dont know your whole story, not to mention who are we to question a therapist strategy and methods.
So you may need to ask another professional if this is normal.
