My split ends.

i am always looking through my hair to see if I have split ends. if i find them i will look at them and then cut them off. sometimes i find ones that i think look neat before i got them off. i found one where there was about five splits at the end and felt a little revolted but at the same time facscinated that they could split like that and then i cut it off once i found another where there was splits all the way up the strand and then decided that there was no point in keep it because it was always going to split so i pulled it out.
i never used to get them as bad until i didn't have money so i had to switch to cheap shampoos and not cut my hair as much cuz i used to get a trim every six weeks and had my hair professionally conditioned

is it normal to hate them but be fascinated with them as well?

Cutting your hair doesn't make it grow faster, but does stop the hair splitting up and breaking off further up, so it appears to grow quicker rather than breaking off. I'm a hairstylist but I do love peeling my split ends apart...

pantene is cheap as fuck!!! lol... it's as good as putting battery acid in your hair!!!!

i use john frieda... paul mitchell... sebastian... biolage is also ok.... they aren't terribly expensive and if you dont use too much they will last long, and make your hair beautiful.

wash your hair every other or every two days....and put conditioner on your hair ..avoiding the scalp (every few days).. leave it in while you soap up your body..... remember you can overcondition.....it's not good.

wash it out with lukewarm water.... twice a month buy a hot oil treatment....(they are only 4$ and you leave them in for half hour before a shower.) NEVER brush your hair... comb it.

when you get your haircut... to avoid the retarted prissy girl making you look like a bull dyke ask her to show you how much is dead.... understand that getting your hair cut up to where she is showing you will stop split ends for months... so work out a style at that length..... there you go.... also dont use hair ties when your hair is wet... and use a modern blowdryer if at all (one not more than a year old)

I stick to this... I hardly see a split end, and I have hair so healthy I dont even need to use serum... or potion 9.

My sister used to worry about theirs too. they used to put mayonaise on the ends, fucked up.
I heard pantene is cheap, and it's good. who cares about name brands, if it works it works.

yes, it is normal. but if you start pulling your hair out so much that you get bald spots, its not - then its called trichotillomania. i have it, and i started out with picking my split ends. it really sucks so be careful.

    Yeah it's normal.
Just go to a really cheap place to get trims and then however often you can afford it, go to the salon you would like to go to.

cutting your hair... even a centimeter makes it grow faster..... especially if you have dead ends...

Yes, I have hated split ends and been fascinated by them at the same time too. I used to say 'my split ends have split ends!'
Unlike you though, instead of cutting them off, I would tear the hair apart using my fingers and that made the problem worse. These days, I don't let my hair get out of condition like that these days though-I don't spend a lot of money on my hair-just a cheap trim every 6-8 weeks and I don't use expensive shampoo.
I have felt that disgusted/fascinated thing before too and it is funny to see someone else describe it!
    Take care
