My son talked about germany from a young age

Ever since my son could talk he has always had an affinity for German things, Volkswagons, dachshunds, he likes German food like sausage and potatoes. He tried to steal beer at age 3. Recently he talks about "when I was in Germany" and watches YouTube videos of people speaking German and sometimes he laughs like he can understand them. Lately he is obsessed with air planes and guess what, he likes the German models from WWI. Im not sure about if I believe in past lives but this is kind of weird. He is 8 now but this has been going on since age 2-3.

Dunno if it's normal, but it's kind of cool. Maybe he just really loves the culture and such. Bet he'd love to visit the country, one day.

Have you considered the possibility that he may be on the autistic spectrum? Children with ASDs (autistic spectrum disorders) are often precocious, and have intense interests in certain subjects. Foreign cultures and modes of transportation - including but not limited to automobiles - are very common subjects for people with ASDs to become fixated on, and such intense interests usually (but not always) last for prolonged periods of time.

    • I have looked into that because he is so interested in specific things...but his doctors ruled "no" because he doesn't fit any of the other symptoms, he is very social, reads expressions well and has a big sense of humor. But I did look into it because he is so fixated on these things.

Ah I see. Hmm I'm not really sure what else could be causing your son's strong fixations with the subjects you mentioned. Did his doctors express any concern over his fixations?

Past lives? Well, remove that sentence and everything else is normal. The kid's just interested in Germans. No need to get supernatural about it.

really interesting...I often think about these kids at three that can play the piano
without a lesson....I been trying to play all my life with little results.
Yes,I believe...I'd be very interested in hearing his stories that I know he knows..
Tell him that you are going to visit Berlin....watch his reaction...If his eyes brighten
smile...and have a great trip. Let him be your guide

he is gifted to remember his past life. hopefully someday he will be able to go to Germany for a vacation! if you have ever seen the unsolved mysteries about the reincarnated submariner, he actually went to the home where he used to live and remembered it and it was so profound. If he went there, it'd be very interesting to document the experience.

Ive seen those shows they are something... I think if he had a past life he may have worked in airplane or car production, he has a strange understanding of mechanisms that I don't know where it comes from.

yeah! Reincarnation is real. I was always a fan of Edgar Cayce material, and it just keep proving itself to be real (to me anyway). I'd say if people that have been taught by their religion that it's not real, and then come to the quandry where you see it IS real. Just remember man made religions, not God.

It could be a remnant of a past life. Even if it isn't, I think it is still pretty cool. I, myself, am very fascinated with Germany. I love the culture, the language and reading about its military history.

And he still remembers now even at 8? That is kinda awesome. Usually kids start to forget that kind of stuff as their ego solidifies.

do you think its a past life?

Well, I do believe in reincarnation. It was my first thought when I read the OP. Who knows for sure though. I don't usually buy into the idea that something as complex as an era is simply an interest for someone just learning to talk and potty train. From a developmental point of view the child should be at the simple toys and simple stories level of interest...anything more seems to be coming from somewhere else.
Now, if an 8 year old just came out of the blue with it I would be much more skeptical. By now they've had plenty of time to develop a vivid imagination.

        • He was pretty much born also interested in car production, his first word after "mom" and "up" was "gearshift". His dad had a VW when he was 2 he sold it and said he would forget about it in a week, he still talks about that car. We have another VW lol.
