My religion... is.... weird?

Christmas existed way before the Christians claimed it for themselves.

It was called different things in different parts of the world, but most celebrations were made to celebrate the winter solstice. The Christian leaders wanted more people to convert to Christianity, so they tried to incorporate pagan rituals with their own in order to win people over to their ways.

I was going to comment on this but SassyFrassyLassie said exactly what I was about to say, and in virtually the same words. So I'd like to say instead that I second her comments.

As a Christian you shouldn't hate anyone.

But Jesus was most likely born in June, btw. Having a child during the winter months just didn't make a whole lot of sense. Food is scarce and mortality rates increase.

There was no historical Jesus, the Bible is fiction; and God is a myth. Christmas is a national holiday -- not the birthday anniversary of a non-existant person. Every Sunday I joyously attend an Episcopal Church. George Santayana said that there is no God and Mary is his mother.

We need to be concerned with our safety. Christians sin everyday as do others. I truly feel like there is only one thing we all have in common : death. Its gonna happen someday. Now is the time to understand differences

FOOLISH MORTAL! Christmas is and will always be a Pagan holiday. You say that people hate Christians. Well, they will hate them more for your stupidity. Granted, there are many Christians that think this way. You all are part of the reason why so many people dislike your religion. Think about what you have done when you go to sleep.

I do not know one single person who "hates Christians"! I think your going a little overboard with this idea of yours! Like everyone else said ,Christmas isn't only something religious, it has a lot to do with showing others how much you care!

Besides, Christman just rips off an old Pagan festival. The Catholic Church started it in hopes of making their religion more "approachable". Christ wasn't even born in Winter, they think he was probably born in Summer.
Why do Christians pratice an old Pagan festival? Shouldn't it be "people who believe in several gods PLZ"?

As stated before Christmas is not originally a christian celebration. And yes, it is normal to hate people. Even hating groups of people is normal. Heck I hate lots of people - among them those of the islamic, jewish, and christian faiths, even other agnostics/atheists. But I also have friends in each of those groups. Just don't judge the individual with prejudice.

I am not christian and I still share presents on Christmas, mostly because of my family.

But, you can make a "party" with present with your friends... No?
I hate a lot of christians, but not because of christianity. Just because a big part is a close mind (not because they are christians, and I don't even make the that associantion to a christian person).

I think it is normal to hate non-christians who hate you. I think it is even more normal to hate people who hate you.
But don't hate non-christians just because of the religion.
I hate a lot of people. Lots, and lots, and lots (not depending on religion), but I don't expect when I meet a new person to hate her. Just saying for you to be careful to not have that preconcept.

Christmas as a holiday has long ago surpassed the Christian religion--all though media activity a couple years ago has shown that people are still grasping to keep it connected.
And as some have stated above me, Christian religious leaders adopted a bunch of pagan rituals around 200 A.D. to entice and control the masses. They completely revamped the religion while they were putting the Bible together because in order for Jesus to compete with popular gods of the time he needed to be just as epic, but still convenient which is why so many parts of Christianity coincide with much older traditions.

I dunno, where's your soapbox?... are you really making the argument that Christmas is solely a christian holiday still? its so commercialized and ingrained in society that I would argue its past the point of an exclusionary religious holiday and moved onto more of a ritual... As a christian, did you know that Christ was not actually born on December 25? If we can't even get the day right, does it really matter if people like buying presents for one another? it's not like they do so claiming to be a devout Christian; most of the time people do so out of a feeling of obligation and societal pressure

I'm sorry but I don't understand christmas. People say it's Jesus's birthday...then why do YOU get presents? ...just saying that my friends and family don't get presents on my birthday, nor do I on theirs.

How come your so called god doesn't give presents to those who can't afford them? (maybe because there is no god in the first place... Oops I can already see the thumbdowns from offended christians)

I hate all religion but the whole fact about christmas (how i see it anyway) nowadays is to give people a day where they can all be happy and excited. Its a break from life to see the joy in all your loved ones, especially kids.
