My parents paid for my college but i still won't listen to them

My parents paid for my college and even part of grad school. They now expect me to listen to them on major life decisions (i.e. who I marry, what career path I pick, even where I live.) I'm not 15 anymore.. I'm over 30 now and I ignore all that despite the constant bickering and expectation to follow their orders on how I should live my life just because they spent over 100 grand on my education. When I save enough money, I'm gonna pay them back that amount plus inflation.

I don't blame you for not wanting to listen to them. It sounds like they want to rule your life. But, they probably want the best for you. I agree that you should pay them back when you can. That way there wont be too many hard feelings on their end.

Hopefully you are grateful for their sacrifice, and don't waste their money and time. If you can't handle the pressure of them always on your back then you should definitely have a conversation with them, you are an adult after all. Many parents and people think that they have an advantage over someone because of something they gave them, and that's really not the case, though some people may say that's being ungrateful.

Well... you are 30 years old and obviously you are nowhere in life. they paid for you to get an education and direction. You sound extremely spoiled and childish to me and I think you should grow up and start wearing your big boy pants.

Assuming you do not live in their house, I'm in agreement with you. I doubt that their contribution came with a contract that if you took the money, you'd have to do whatever they said for the rest of your life.
Tell them respectfully that they have their lives to live and you have yours. It is not their right to force you to live your life to suit their desires, just because they paid for your education. That was their responsibility as parents, anyway.
    Good luck.

My thoughts exactly, who cares what your parents thinks when you are thirty?

Can ask you a deeply personal and possibly inflammatory question in regards to religious and cultural origin?

Nicely put. I don't think the OP is from a Western background. This makes it hard for me to give good advice. My guess is that the parents would expect this regardless of how much money was spent on education.
