My parents don't take me seriously

So a few months ago I was thinking about what I wanted to do when I graduated from high school. I decided I wanted to go to the community college down the road from me and then attend a real college to become a history teacher because I really love history. A few weeks later my dad asked me what my plans were going to be after high school and I told him. My mother and father started laughing at me which I couldn't believe, I felt awful after that. It was as if my parents don't believe I can do it which made no sense to me because I've always had good grades and I've been on the honor roll more than 3 times; also did my homework every night even if it took me 4 hours (has happened).
Why would they laugh at me? Is this normal?

  • They laughed because it was an involuntary reaction to something so immense that they cannot understand. Probably because they do not have the mental capacity to apprehend such skill and responsibility. You'll do much better than them

That was cruel of them. Work hard and prove them wrong.

They *laughed* at you? God, that is awful. Have you asked them why they laughed? Maybe it was shock or maybe it was something else. But laughing at you? Not good. They should apologise.

Why did they laugh? Maybe they think you shouldn't be going to a community college, but should go directly to a better school.

    That is cold
I think it is because it's the opposite, they might beleive you are capable of more.
I want to become a maths teacher too but im to scared to tell my perents because they see it as failiar
This is because my auntie wanted to become a financial advisers but she didnt and because a math teacher. My cousin wanted to become a doctor but again he didnt and became a chemistry teacher. So they see it as failiar, even tho it is something I really want to do. Also im against them becoming teachers because that is not what they want to do, so they won't care, therefore they won't be good teachers. Im still going to become a teacher but i'l tell them when it is too late. And you should be a teacher because just from reading you post I can see you will be a good teacher and inspire greatness.
