My ocd is driving me crazy!

I have this obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) where I have to make sure things are turned off and closed. For example, every time I go to bed in my house I have to make sure all the water faucets and the stove are turned off, and all the doors (including the garage) and windows are closed and locked. I have tried to go to bed without checking the bathroom faucet once or twice, and I lie in bed, unable to sleep, imagining water leaking all over the floor and the cost to repair the damage, and I have to get up and check it. But unfortunately when I check the faucet, I have to go recheck every other door and faucet in the house. And going on vacation - forget about it, my OCD drives me crazy. Did I leave this on, or lock that. I waste too much time every week on this OCD. It is also very annoying to others around me. I know this isn't normal, but does anyone have any advice?

Keep taking your meds and don't go off them. If you really have OCD its not a joke

I don't know if it worked or not but I was on an anti-depressant called Luvox, I complied with it for about 8 months. I was for sure obsessive but I didn't have the major compuslive behaviors. Alot of people have obsessions but not necessarily compulsions. I do have a lady friend that has a unique syndrome of being more compulsive than obsessive.
Alot of people these days have become obsessive compulsive to the internet especially those with smart phones. People are constanly texting and facebooking, what do you call that?

I have OCD too. And I hate it. I hate everything about it. I can lay awake for hours having to check something, fix something, etc. Idk if its normal to the general population, but I think its normal to anyone with a mental disorder to hate it. It can control your life.

I also have OCD i always check to make sure the door is locked the windows are locked. i have seven cats so before i go to bed i have to check to make sure they are all in, about three times a night i have to count them. If you have OCD this is normal behaviour.

I feel like you say you have OCD then ask if the symptoms of OCD are normal. You basically said you have OCD and then describes the symptoms. If you have OCD then those symptoms are normal. If you don't have OCD (which u clearly do) then it's not normal...

My OCD is driving me crazy too! I used to be on Prozac for it, but now I just try to deal with it on my own. Not an easy task!

And you could also make a list of all windows doors etc, put it on a clip board, go make your rounds before bed and put a check beside each one as you go. Then take it to bed put it on your night stand, then when you think you forgot check the list to reassure yourself. It might also help if you took pictures of the windows doors faucets being sure to have the date and time set, then you can scroll through the camera to reassure yourself. Good luck friend ;)

    Try this:
Go turn all the faucets in your house on. Go lay in your bed for 30 seconds with the water running. Then get back up and start turning the water back off. Put your hand in the water before turning it off. Try this for 3 nights, you should start to "feel" a difference by the 2nd night... If there is no change in the way you feel, then start experimenting by leaving water running and walking away for short periods of time.

No this isn't normal. You are right, it is OCD. You should talk to your doctor. There are medications and behavioral therapists that can help you.
