My musical taste suddenly changed?

I used to listen to indie rock, thrash metal, indie pop, alternative rock, even softer stuff like dream pop and jazz artists

But for the past month I only care and want to listen to classical piano compositions -- chopin, erik satie, liszt, debussy, schumann

Of course, I've always loved classical music, but never JUST it. Am I depressed? Or am I just getting old and dingy? =(

Mine changed too. I believe your taste in music changes with the with the experiences you have during your live. It's never set in stone, unless you're closed minded.

Well I love all types of music, Ska-punk-rasta-funk-indie/alt-hip hop-Blues-Folk-Metal-ClassicRock- and of course Classical Music.

Like My gummy friend said no need to limit yourself, sometimes music just speaks to you. Many types of music's derivative is classical so it makes sense to enjoy it.

Taste can change, so what if your diggin the classical at the moment. Just have fun explore it

This is normal as there are so many different types of music that you're sure to find something you prefer. I used to listen to all of the mainstream bullshit like pop and rap. Now I listen to rock and metal as I found the sincerity of it amazing. I can't stand the music I used to listen to before.

You would know if you were depressed. You were probably just listening to the same stuff too much and got bored of it.

It's like taste buds, over time certain foods lose their finesse. Eventually a band will come along in the style of music you used to enjoy and you'll fall all over again.

Thats not unusual at all... depending on a persons mood and current circumstances in life their musical direction can change greatly... personally while i'm a huge metal fan I have a thing for Beethoven... specifically Moonlight Sonata

I'm basically the same way and I used to be able to play part of that on the piano but then I forgot it. :/ Neo-classical Metal is also one of the best things going because it combines the best.

    Normal for me.

Classic piano music --> Asian pop.

This post sounds like a brag, because people think that the type of music you listen to defines how intelligent and sophisticated you are. Well that's a bunch of horseshit. Nobody cares what you listen to. And if I had a kind of "problem" like that I wouldn't be so distressed that I'd have to make a post about it.

    • I assure you it isn't a brag. If I posted the genres that I *used to* listen to it was to give an idea of "what was," not brag. I don't know if you've jumped at that skeptical conclusion out of an insecurity, or because many posts on here indeed have ulterior motives. forum trolls are really messing people up nowadays lol

my only motive in posting this was because I was bothered by the fact that I didn't care about my usual musical tastes anymore, which may reflect how I don't care about a lot of personal stuff anymore. and so I questioned naively, like many of us do in the threads we create on here, if this change was a reflection of depression. it was also a subtle venting of my discomfort in the fact that I may have mellowed down and no more the energetic, animated, fun person I used to be.

it doesn't bother me that you thought this was a brag, but I do hope you give people, at least IRL, the benefit of the doubt =)

Don't be offended, I'm just rude for no reason because I have no friends. And I have no friends because I'm rude for no reason.

I can see only two things which would bring about such a radical change in your musical tastes.
One; you could have a brain tumor.
two; you could be growing up.
    'nough said.
