My mom tells people what their career should be. iin?
Firstly, I'm an adult.....and this is a life-long observation of my mom's habit of picking careers for everyone as if she has some 'gift'.
Fine if she was good at it or had some basis for it, but she's terrible at it, and it's annoying!! And, she's not pushing major careers like being a doctor or lawyer, as some parents do.
She told me I should be a cartoonist. What?? I HATE drawing, I can't draw the same thing the same way twice, and I never expressed any interest in anything cartoon-related. I doodle funny faces, I think that's where she got the idea from, but come on....a cartoonist because I doodle funny faces once a month?
Then, she tells someone else they should be a landscaper....out of left field, once again. Another person, a repo man.
It's so confusing, where do these ideas come from and why she feels like she HAS to tell people what they should do knowing nothing about their interests or intellect.
Also, why not encourage exploration and more lofty careers than landscaper (not that there's anything wrong with that, but are you saying that's all they're capable of, and what makes you think they're interested??) Especially your own children, why peg them with some oddball career direction and not encourage college at all?
Is this normal? Do other people do this (so badly)??
