My mom still believes and talks about this lie i told as a kid.iin?

My brother and I sneaked into some Christmas presents that my aunt had sent and inside of 2 of the gifts was $20 for each of us. We had planned on just seeing what was in the gifts and then re-wrapping them like we usually did but we wanted to keep the $20 because we happened to be going to the store the next day and we wanted to spend it.

We thought of a plan to tell mom that we had found the money on the ground at the store because she knew we didn't have any cash, we certainly had to explain where we got $20 each! So we act like we had to go to the bathroom and when we met back up with my mom we told her we found $40 on the ground by the restroom and we were going to split it between us (why did she believe that? We'd never do that if this ACTUALLY happened! We'd fight to the death over it!)

I realize that the subject matter is really lame and it's not a big deal but this is what gets me about it:

This happened 20 years ago (!!) and my mom STILL talks about that time we were so lucky and found $40 at Wal Mart. Every time she talks about it I am laughing so hard inside, I should probably feel guilty for perpetuating this lie for so long and thinking it's funny, but I don't.

Whenever she talks about this I sort of want to tell her the truth just to shatter her fond memory...BUT I get a lot more out of the fact that the lie lives on, stronger than the day it was conceived.

Do you have a story about a lie that has lived on for a long time and is a fond memory to someone?

I have a story like this to share. 13
This hasn't happened to me. 13
Tell your mom the truth! 24
Don't tell her the truth, EVER! 29
Tell her some more lies. 8

It would have been pretty funny if she made you hand it in to lost and found.

Poor thing hasn't had a very exciting life if these are her best stories.

I did laugh a little reading this. Usually I'd say that you should be honest and tell the truth, but... this time, I think its too late for you to tell her the truth. And I sort of think it would be a bad idea to tell her the truth anyway.

I mean, it sounds like such a beautiful thought that your mother has. That someone could be so lucky around the holidays. She seems like the type that really believes in good luck, and miracles(can't say I don't either), but you know good luck wasn't the case this time. It seems like if you were to tell her the real story, she'd be crushed. Next time she mentions it, you and your brother should just look at each other, smirk, and look away. Let your mother keep her happy thought. Its kind of cute too.

Maybe she secretly knows, and she just keeps bringing it up to see if you will admit the truth...

"...I sort of want to tell her the truth just to shatter her fond memory...BUT I get a lot more out of the fact that the lie lives on..."

That sounds very cruel. To be dishonest as a child is normal and you can grow out of it. But as an adult to want to hurt your moms feelings...
    Shame on you.

He stole money from his grandmother and used it to buy some coke, and then blamed it on the jews.

Did you at least thank your Aunt? Does your mom believe that your aunt didn't get you a present that year?

I wasn't that very good at lying when I was a child. I used to have a problem controlling how loud I was talking when I was trying to lie. I'd end up saying something like:

I ABSOLUTELY DID NOT BREAK THE WINDOW IN THE KITCHEN!!!!!

I think my lying prowess has improved now.

I was once in the caribbean with my parents. I was underage and had too many drinks (drinking for the first time in my life), so as you may imagine the next day I was hungover as fuck. I felt so sick I couldn't even walk but I told them I was dehydrated because of the heat and they believed me and were very worried. They were scared because there's a serious illness that runs in the family and they thought I was showing symptoms of it. I felt incredibly guilty of making them feel scared when I knew it was just a hangover but I didn't even consider telling them the truth. However, my brother did. So they know anyway. But I still have many other stories like yours.

The story like this that I would like to share, is the one that you have cited in your story. It perpetuates division in society. I have, on previous occasions, attempted to clarify the actual factoids behind this celebratory event. Yet many of us stubbornly refuse to clear our minds of these archaic beliefs and continue to perpetuate the lie. It is ludicrous that in an advanced and Enlightened society, we should be celebrating an event which has become little more than a cash grab for corporate consumption.

Complacency is no longer an option.
Do you wish to live or do you wish to die?

        That is my point!

HA! This coming from someone who believes the Pleiadians are his friends. Perhaps they need to raise your frequency a little higher?

              I think I see what you're saying.

And complacency in this world, could be one of the biggest problems people have.
