My friend is a guy and is a manly man. He isn't an emotional guy, he said he just doesn't know how...
Well I was at his house and he'd just been dumped by his girlfriend, we were doing homework and I asked him how he felt & he said he didn't care. About 5 minutes later he started biting his knuckles then started crying uncontrollably I was surprised. Its the first time i've seen him do this.

    Guys can have feelings too and we can still express them through crying. It's normal. Some guys do it more than others. It's good to just let it all out.

      It was more... Surprising than anything. Iknow boys cry but i've never seen HIM cry.

    He's clearly going through a really rough time and since you seem like a good friend of his it would be great if you stick by him and help him through it.

    Was he deeply in love with his girlfriend? Because if thats the case then maybe he felt like she was the only person he could be himself around and she probably taught him how to feel (if that makes sense). She was probably the only person he opened himself up to and confided in her but now that she's gone he's really sad about that and mad that he allowed himself to be vulnerable.

    Anyway I'm sure he would really appreciate you sticking it out with him during this time.

      They were reallllly close. I really feel bad for him. I'm trying to help him but it hasn't been working well untill today where he hugged me really tight and said thank you for caring and we talked for a while. I've never seen him like this.

    Men cry. They're human, too. If a guy friend of mine cried, I would be there and hug him :). If a boyfriend cried, I would comfort him and cry with him :)...... I never had a boyfriend. *SIGH*.

    I know this one guy who can't look at a girl's face when they cry or he'll start crying. As a girl, I don't care who I cry in front of. At my friend's going away party, I choked up and started balling. Then at church when we were praying for her, I started crying, again T_T.

      I see. The sight of seeing close ones cry makes me cry, too.
      I know they cry. Its just I didn't expect him to cry because he never shows any negative emotion, ever. He rarely even smiles and he hid it soo well.

        The thing is with this guy, he acts like a big child- you know, goofy, flirty, etc, and I can't really see him as the type who cries.

    I had a similar experience many years ago when a male friend called me to say that his dad had just dropped dead one minute before :o(

    I was so upset for him and didn't know what to say. I had to go into university and explain to our lecturers why he'd probably mess up his exams. I was in tears telling them about it.

    Just be there for him and let him express his emotions without judging him. He just needs to let it out.
