My love deployed

We want to marry each other. He is leaving for Afghanistan in 2 days. It will be next year before he is back. I'm torn up. So many have been through this, are any of you on here? Is it normal to be this weak?

    • Fuck war, and all who willfully perpetuate it. You live by the sword, you die by it.

^agree 100%. It's hard as hell, but definitely possible and worthwhile. They have groups for military wives/girlfriends. If you don't want something so formal- reach out to the other wives in his deployment. I'm sure they feel the same way and you all can lean on each other.

I've been through it. All I want you to remember is to NOT give him false hope. If you are going to stick it out with him, do it all the way. Be faithful. Be strong. And tell your man he is loved and supported and thanked and appreciated deeply for his service.

  • Hopefully he will not be physically and/or mentally destroyed when/if he comes back.

Thanks for the encouraging words, those who had them (I figured I'd see some dumb comments, I did open my issue to strangers). Your input has been very uplifting.

I'd rather die by the sword than die by oppression you fucking pussy. You're lucky you have the ability to express your idiotic opinions. It's called freedom.

And serene, war is so beyond relationships you don't understand. I would never keep the man I love from being in the military- its the most honorable thing a man can do. True love can withstand the distance and hardships.

He shouldn't have deployed if he has a gf. It's not fair to you.
