My little cousin is larger than most kids in her grade

I have a cousin that is only 8 years old and she is overweight. Her pants fit me and I am a pretty regular sized teenager. I am worried what might come in her future. I mean, she is my little cousin, am I just going to sit back and watch when I know that she is going to have weight problems? Sometimes I baby sit her and all she ever eats is junk food. Last year our family's went on vacation together and everytime her parents saw a place to buy ice cream they would tell her and they would actually incurage her to have some. What should I do? obviously her parents dont see what is going on. Is it normal for a girl her age to eat like this?

try to help her now. being overweight causes so many health problems. If she starts good habits now she can thank you for a long healthy life.

It really isn't healthy. I suggest confronting her parents about it. If you feel like they won't listen to you, get your parents to talk to them. But don't do both, if you fail yourself, her parents might feel like you turned your parents against them. So make sure you succeed the first time.

I also suggest getting her into a physical hobby. Soccer, volleyball, tennis is all great. If she doesn't want to do that or you feel like she will be embarrased, try a solo sport like swimming, or archery or horseback riding. All activities where you move are good. Also, if they ahve the money, have her parents consult a pediatrition so they know what a young girl should be getting.

If the weight continues despite a better lifestyle (Which from your story I doubt it will)then consult a doctor and see if she has any issues with her digestive system or glands.

Im telling this from a personal point of view as well. I used to play soccer until I had several severe asthma attacks during games or practise. After that I started gaining weight because I had nothing to do. I've started losing it again but it can be miserable. Best solution is, don't get it at all. Unless you're a masochist and enjoy running yourself to death, then its fine.

Nah, that's very dangerous.... Cancer cells feed on sugar.

I think that's all I need to tell you.
