My inner narrator is obnoxious

Okay, so I think it's universal that everyone has an 'inner narrator'. Like, a voice in your head that says stuff when you read things.

When you listen to people talk or listen to songs, does your narrator repeat those words? Also, I think my inner voice is overactive, like it seeks to put commentary on everything I do. For example I'll be reaching into my bag for keys to my front door and my narrator will be like "and she takes the keys from her bag, picking out the right one. She sticks the key into the lock and turns, hearing the door click open."

Wtf, like, my life isn't a book why does my brain talk like that lol.

I don't talk to myself, 'it' just talks about me and the things I'm doing..... Also when I read words in caps lock, my inner voice feels the need to yell.

IIN?

I hope this was meant to be funny because it really amused me. My inner narrator is Polish and I had to learn Polish just to understand him. Inner narrators, eh? Can't live with them, can't fry them in a pan.

Mine does the exact same thing! Well, it tells the story in past tense, and first person, but it's basically the same. It IS a semi-conscious thing for me — it's something I do to improve my description in my writing — but it does get old after a while, and sometimes it doesn't like to turn off when I tell it to.
The only really weird thing my "inner narrator" does is randomly take on a British accent. Like wtf??

I hope you don't actually hear the voice in your head as you read. That's a great way to dramatically reduce your reading speed. Most people would read a lot faster if they weren't taught to read by speaking along with the words. Even after you stop doing it out loud it's still the natural process in your head, and your vocal cords still try to make the sounds to a very small degree. If you really pay attention you can feel your vocal cords moving, and your throat may get sore during extended reading.

The only really weird thing my "inner narrator" does is randomly take on a British accent. i read this and thought okay so i'm not the only one with this situation...ha ha... my inner narrator also has imaginary conversations like what would my friend say after looking at my dress and then what would i say and so on...but mostly its fun when i read books and stuff coz then it just goes overboard with accents...in public sometimes you want to make a comment but are unable to do so and the inner narrator says it and i just have to suppress my laugh!!

Ha what a great site. I totally do that all the time. It's both a very interesting experience to be aware of your inner voice and it feels kind of existential and strange.

It can be distracting, entertaining etc.. most creative people know what you are talking about. I have many times, played that game in my head where either you try and say exactly what you are hearing in your head at the same speed or out loud to annoy a friend.

The inner dialogue mosdef is playing a role in making that happen. My reading voice is usually a version of me I guess. I've also obsessed on trying to really HEAR it, like dissect the thought process. You're obviously super creative :)

My inner narrator always reads capslock in shouting. It's weird how sometimes I can just read something straight, and sometimes the narrator will be reading it in my head.
