Ok, i was talking to my girlfriend and she has been suffering from depression. I finally got her to tell me what has been bothering her, she told me that her mom also suffers from depression, her dad is dying slowly and has anger management issues, and worst of all, her older brother sexually abused her when she was 6-11, shes 17 now but she still dislikes being around him alone... She has a psychiatrist, but she feels like she cant tell her psychiatrist about it.. I tried to convince her to talk to someone about it but she barely even told me after dating her for half a year and being very honest with eachother... I dont know what to do... I promised to not tell anyone, but i feel like i need to help her.. She has told me multiple times shes contemplated suicide and that she has lost two close friends to suicide.. I do love her and im just really confused... I know this isnt really an is it normal question, but i just need help.

    Pyschological therapy is a waste of time and money. Instead of walking around keeping this dark secret inside you should convince her to tell her family what happened, the only way to overcome a fear is to confront it head on. Her brother needs to be named and shamed as an incestual abuser, that way the power that she probably still believes he holds over her will no longer exist.

      She said she told her family, but they never beleived her, and just said she was craving attention..

    My gf is the dame way...we have been dating for 2 years and she used to cut herself....the only thing we can do as men is to just be there for them in any way and to make them feel as safe and happy as possible :D

    Her family sound horrible!

    Get her to tell her doctor even if it means you sitting in the room with her when she tells her doctor. Her suicidal tendencies and depression are clearly caused by what she went through. Tell her that you love her, support her and that you don't want to see her suffer...
