    Assuming your friend is telling you the truth, that's a very bad sign about her partner.

    At the very least, it's dishonest and manipulative, which are never good traits.

    If he's also undermining your friend's connections with other friends and her family, things could get very grim for her, since that suggests he wants to have complete control over her.
