My friend wants to apply for disability... and i am pissed. iin?

I was at my friend's house the other day, I lived with her for a while along with her husband. She says she wants to apply for disability because her husband does not give her enough money.

The point is not that she is disabled. She IS disabled. However, her husband brings home six figures. She'd get laughed out of the office. Not only that, but she gets $1000 a month minimum as an allowance from her husband as well as two brand new cars and everything that she needs to live a happy and comfortable life. But she can't handle her money, she just wants more money to spend on senseless bullshit!

I AM PISSED! My friends that are on disability don't have it because they want more money to go out and buy BULLSHIT and fill their pampered, comfortable lives with more IPads and smart phones, they use it to pay their bills and feed their kids! I consider this to be an insult to everyone that NEEDS the system. Her even contemplating using a vital government service that thousands actually NEED to make her life a bit more cushy and comfortable almost made me punch her.

Is it normal that I am this pissed off about my friend wanting disability i.e. more spending money?

  • A woman wanting more money, even after she is getting free money off of her partner's hard work, yet still isn't satisfied. My God, it's so abnormal (sarcasm).

    Ready. Set. Rage at me.

    • So I guess you would rather not answer my question and you would prefer to start another gender debate on my story?

By the way, her brother is just as bad. His wife left him because he didn't feel like he should have to work for his money and that she needed to carry the entirety of the financial burden... and the domestic activities. Her son is a money grubbing little cock who only smiles at you if he thinks you have a buck for him.

While I appreciate your insights, this post is not about you and your agenda. It is not about money grubbing females. It is about my feeling towards my friend and my asking you whether or not they are justified.

      • Neither, it was a joke, a truth for humour purposes.

If you need me to answer the point I already think you know the answer to, then I will.
Yes, it is normal to dislike a selfish person trying to gain more money by exploting their dissabilities, when they get more than most people do, for free no less.

        • I have made false assumptions in the past, so I try to avoid making assumptions when possible. I hope you cna understand.

There is an element of truth to what you are saying. She sees her allowance as compensation for her services as a homemaker and is actually resentful of her husband for paying his employees (who have bills to pay and mouths to feed) more than she is paid. I find this to be totally ridiculous for many reasons, including the fact that those employees do more work in one hour than she does all week. She's lazy.

Please do not allow her to serve as an example for homemakers. Every other homemaker I know easily contributes as much to the household as her husband and is grateful to her husband for giving her the increasingly rare opportunity to be able to stay at home and raise her kids. I don't believe that any of them require monetary compensation for what is the natural duty that they signed up for.

          She pisses me off.

Hey fuck you, there are just as many free loading, boozed up, lazy as fuck men out there leeching of their girlfriend or wife's hard work. I see it all the time around these parts, the women go out and work their asses off to keep a clean house, cook, take care of their kids, work and pay the bills, and their men are constantly taking their money and spending it on bullshit like weed, or electronics or whatever the hell else men buy.

      • Females get free money from others far more than males do. Common fact, with all the benefits females can get.

If you don't like it, don't contribute to the number of females doing it.

      • Bristexai, I have a feeling you are about to go down the route that many other user shave gone down. Believe me, all you will find down that route is your self being shown as a fool.

For example, nobody cares at all about me? Weird, coming from someone that cares enough to reply to me twice. If you are going to state something, atleast do it in a way that isn't easy enough to flip back on to you, it saves me from explaining how irrational you are by your comment being betrayed by the whole act of replying to me.
Secondly, I have full list of stories I could share of people raging at me, which would beg to differ.

You seem to make a habit of "trying" to be offensive, but you do it in such an average way that it makes me think how cute it is of how hard you try to insult people.

Schoolyard antics won't "upset me", you lack what it takes to "upset me", and the "nobody cares about you" comment shows that all you have to offer is insults a twelve year old would have. You going to call me a poo poo pants, too? Atleast do it right, kiddo.

I'm going to have fun with you, I can tell.

What do you mean be on "disability" -- what income program are you referring to? There are many different countries on IIN, but the following is safe to say.

She won't qualify for government welfare for disabilities because of their high family income - and with it and any other income program (pensions, worker's comp and workplace insurers) independent medical documentation is needed - often on an ongoing basis - demonstrating that you can't work. You will also likely be expected to pursue rehab, re-training and expected to accept employment that accommodates the disability.

People with disabilities work. Some can not. But just having a disability in itself doesn't exempt you from work or automatically entitle you to income support with no strings attached.

The woman may be misinformed and just blowing smoke. Or she may have a bona fide problem to which she does indeed qualify for help. Either way, you may wish to step back and mind your own business because you are just getting needlessly upset.

"Either way, you may wish to step back and mind your own business because you are just getting needlessly upset."

Edit:I worded this very rudely and if you read it, I apologize. She is married into my family and what she has been doing with her money and legal business lately has been directly affecting my family and she tells me everything. I believe I am allowed to react to what I am told and the business of my family.

She is making my family miserable. Otherwise, I would not give a shite.

Either way, I know that she would not qualify, and this has happened before where she had said job but she refused to continue working even with accommodations.

No I didn't think you were being rude. I think you are genuinely upset. And you are most certainly entitled to your feelings. I didn't mean to imply that when I said it was needless. What I meant is that there are times one needs to step back and detach themselves from other people's issues to spare your own feelings especially when being upset does no good. Putting constructive boundaries in place is important. These are her problems (primarily) not yours. She is not very likely being who she is just to offend you.

yeah it is for you but if she badly needs it for her self disability then she should get it for that but i can say they will cut how ever much money her husband makes off of her disability checks, or half of what he makes i guess

it is kind of pointless to even get it if hes giving her $1000.00 that will be cut off her disability money only if she tells them he gives her that money they'll take that amount away from her check.

they did to me when i told them i was working.

She can't get disability for that. Unless it's an usual thing, like she can't use her hands A LOT because she's in too much pain or something. Even with seizures, as an example, you have have a seizure at least four times a week to get disability. She could really play up the depression, though.

Anywho, it's pretty screwed up that she'd take away from people who actually need the fantastic $700 per month to pay their most basic needs.

She needs to live some real life, she obviously doesn't understand the meaning.

That disability pension is NOT just about cash.
Its possible you can get access to front (huge) parking bays at the shops. You can get discounts on just about everything (ie you still pay money, but not as much as others) You even get tax benefits, especially if you are running your own business. I mean it goes on and on.

These disability or pension entitlements (possibly a card that you present when required) can help in all types of areas, where you may not receive actual money (ie The 'government may decline any 'payments') BUT you still get the entitlements it allows.

ie Children are expensive! Sports; school fees; even entertainment. Having a 'dissability' card, may also help out with family matters (again no actual cash given out though for ones who are financially secure already)

Plus, I wanted to say that whatever YOU (meaning everyone reading) get paid, is NEVER enough. Are you suggesting that if their employer said You are getting a pay increase that these people (or anyone) would say No? Of course extra money helps, however financial you are. Otherwise Microsoft would just give out Windows for free, I mean they have enough not to go broke for years!

When she applies for the dissability pension make sure to tell her she also gets free ambulance rides. Because those things can cost the Earth for a 1 mile drive down the road!

Also you said she IS disabled. Therefore she should get it. Since our society helps those that cause more taxes and rises in footpaths costs etc etc to everyone else. 'Normal' is basically frowned upon. Look a disabled person, every one step aside let her through, a century or so ago she would have died at birth!

    • She has enough money, though. That's the thing. She has 16k worth of credit card debt because she will not quit spending. Her husband brings home six figures and she has everything provided for. More money will not solve her problems and using a system that she does not need for more spending money is ridiculous.

She couldn't get it anyway. She hasn't worked in over twenty years.

Remember its not the money, as you say its the benefits of the 'system'.
By the way I'm not disabled in any way. And I notice that those who are generally spend their days shopping only for hours on end, hence the 'disable' zones.

Think of it this way (this should get you away from the 'cash' point) When the hospitals say 'no beds', or you wait for hours at the doctors, or our taxes for better roads and footpaths etc go up, its usually because 'disable' people come first! Now is that an upside down world or what?
Aliens land and ask who is cared for and respected by society the most. Well the sick and disabled of course. They are the face of our culture! Pretty sure the aliens would say, what about the strong and intellligent? Oh, we put those ones to work, except we make MOST of them work in menial jobs, basically society has no time (or money!) for healthy people. We hate them!
        :D

        • ...what?

Please explain. The issue is not the benefits, it is the money. Her disability is depression, arthritis and migraines.

If this lady earns too much money already (note the husband's income 'may' not be counted)
Then by getting the 'dissability pension', in actual fact sh would only be getting the 'benefits'. Like: Hospital care etc etc etc etc etc (There is a LOT of extras!)
            That's what I'm talking about!

            Comment Hidden ( show )
              -

She doesn't leave the house except to shop. I didn't know about any other of the benefits. I am assuming you live in the US?

I have friends that are on disability that legitimately need it. That disability money goes towards their essentials, their kids' school supplies, their rent etc. and they are on disability because they have no other means of income.

This woman has all of her essentials and then some provided for her but she is terrible with her money. She spends like it is literally not an object and the thought of her using a government service that people use to LIVE just so she can spend more money angers me.
