I think you will find when you catheterize yourself it is not uncomfortable at all. All the times a nurse did it to me, I wanted to scream in pain. It is a little more complicated for a man, just because your urethra is so much longer, and it curves around the prostate gland. I find putting it in and taking it out creates the most delicious feeling. Just unbelievable.

It would be so nice for you to get out of diapers every so often. You should ask your Dr about an indwelling Foley catheter, then alternate it with the diapers to give your skin a break.

All I can think is owie! I remember being cathed a few times as a child (between 8 and 12 years old) and the pain that was involved. Ok I also usually had some sort of infection and the nurse was NOT gentile.

I do believe this is pretty unusual, although in some groups this might be considered normal. Personally, I say normal because we are all different.

Not sure about permanently incontinent because I have experienced long term diapers, although I still love them, it is just not the same if it becomes routine as it is when you engage it in less frequently.

I have been thinking of trying to obtain some catheters because I have often wondered. The pain is really the only thing that scares me.

  if proper methods and lube are used it is only slightly uncomfortable nurses tend to rush things insrtion should be done slowlystart with smaller sise say 14fr you will like it so much you will want biggersise
