We were high school sweethearts for 3 years and we broke up a few weeks ago. I wanted to stay friends, so one day he'd be all nice and normal then the next day he'd say he'd "been thinking" then go CRAZY and now I'm blocked on everything. I didn't do anything and I was nice to him. He just suddenly would became an asshole. Why?
He's an ass. He has reasons but they're not good ones.
He might still have feelings. 3 years? Of course he still has feelings. He's might be angry that he has feelings and that you don't, like you let him down.
He's probably accustomed to special treatment from you and isn't comfortable with anything less. You're not alone in this. I think you need more space. Months of space.

Thanks so much for the feedback guys! It's reassuring. We went through so much together and I don't want to just cut him out of my life like that. I go back to school in about a month though and I'll have to see him there, so I guess maybe I just shouldn't try talking to him until later in the year or something.

Absolutely agree! He's hurting and you can't be friends until he gets over it. Stay away from him and give him a break for at least 3 months. Apparently, statistics state it takes the average person 13 weeks to get over a break up.
