My daughter won't talk to people she doesn't know

My daughter is 7 yrs old and when we are around people she doesn't know she won't talk. If we have guests over and she doesn't know them she goes silent. Me and her have our own special eye language to communicate when others are around and she's silent. But her dad hates the fact she won't tak to people she doesn't know, me I have no problem with it. She's normal at school and at home sometimes you can't get her to shut up, but when others come around she's silent. Is it weird that she doesn't talk, I don't think so but her dad thinks its something wrong with her.

It is perfectly normal, both I and my brother did it at a young age, but its worth keeping an eye on her, if she does it with kids her own age, it could be a form of an anxiety disorder.

I was like that only because I liked to think to myself or how the people I meet are complete dumbasses

  • She's 7 for goodness sake - how would you expect her to behave with strange adults (and be safe) - get your husband to lighten up. Sure he's proud & wants to impress his guests. But get him to drop the social pressure. That will not help her build confidence.

It's normal, just a shyness really.

And yea, I also agree with ranbertron.

I used to be the same when I was a child around that age. I turned my head at some ones hosue and hid inbetween my parents and refused too speak. So it is normal to do it.

In my case I do remember it clearly I think it was the fact I felt overwhelmed and intimidated and scared. I don't know why but thats just my experience but too me it is normal and I don't see a problem with it =)
