My daughter had anesthesia awareness

My daughter had surgery August of this year. She is a teenager. She was in recovery for 5 1/2 hours.I kept askings the nurses when she was coming to her room? They said she was having trouble waking up and sensative to anesthesia. After four hours they let my daughter and I in to see her.She wasn't awake and her left arm was shaking from her shoulder down.I woke her up,she said a word and her legs were very cold.I asked about her arm and they wouldn't answer. She was in the hospital over night. She started remembering things said like need more medicine, and I feel bad for giving all her medicine at once.We have been through many doctors that said she is causing her arm tremers. She can't go to school. Her balance is off, she is dizzy, can't sleep, headaches, memory loss.We are going to a Hypnotherapist. That is working for us no medications.Doctors don't want to hear of it being anesthesia at all.I do believe that is the cause. Please contact Carol from Anesthesia Awareness, she is the Founder of Awareness.I still have to tell the surgen about what I know and I know he won't want to believe me.This is happening to more and more people. My prayers are with you all.I hope maybe I could help someone. This is so hard to go through alone.

I was under anesthesia for a double biopsy of the liver and I was awake during the whole thing, but I just couldn't move or scream out. I was on the CatScan machine since I had to drink the liquid and they shot dye in me as well. I heard everything they said, and even the machine telling me when to breathe and when to hold it. I was trying to move and let them know I felt them sucking one of the lesions out, but I couldn't. When I was being moved to the ICU, my tongue came back to me and I tried to talk and tell them what had happened, but my speech was so slurred I couldn't get a word in. The man hushed me by telling me I was going past the maternity ward, that I'd scare the babies. My husband, whom was walking with us asked him why I was acting that way, and his exact words were: "She's under something similar to LSD.. she's having a trip, and we could saw her legs off right now and she wouldn't feel or know a thing". TERRIBLE thing to say, because I started screaming and trying to get up from the bed. They had already put me through more pain than I can bare by the bopsies. Once in ICU, my liver was under such spazms and pain that I screamed and begged for something to help me, but they gave me nothing. They said I had already been given all I could have. I went home that very day, against their wishes to spend the night, and got out of that hell hole, and without anything for pain. Its been close to 5 years since then, and even though I need more testing to see how far my disease has progressed, I would rather die without knowing than to go through that again. I feel so sorry for your daughter :(

I'm so sorry that you had to go through that. Please feel free to talk to me.So many people are going through this.I'm going to give you some information.Although normally a patient does not remember anything about surgery that involves general anesthesia, about one or two people in every 1,000 may wake up during general anesthesia according to the mayo clinic.About 30,000 people a year wake up during surgery but because they are paralized their anesthesioliststs think they are still asleep and unaware of what is happening to them.My daughter is still in high school and had ear surgery just to let you know. Please look up Carol Weihrer's and hear her story. It is alot like yours.

This story is too confusing to understand what you are actually asking.

Of course they have. Which general anesthesia are we actually talking about?

We had a miracle happen Christmas Eve morning. My daughter woke up came in my room and said that her arm stopped shaking.I looked at her and it did.We both started crying and hugging. This is the best present her and I could have this year. She will be going back to school half days hopefully soon also.I hope this will be the starting of a better year for her.angelaware

I hope she gets better, but she'll probably never want to undergo surgery again, which I couldn't really blame her. I'm scared to death of it now, and I think I'd rather die than to go through the pain and torture I felt during it, and that was only from a double biopsy and didn't last nearly as long as other surgeries. The fact that they withheld pain relief from me after coming out wasn't very good either. They said my doc's orders were to have none, because it could damage my liver. Well, they should have made me aware of all this before I ever showed up to have it done, that they planned to make me go through the whole thing with no relief from the pain.

My daughter had a cholesteatoma surgery. That is a cist down deep in her ear removed. This is a two part surgery. Her ear drum has to be put back in the next surgery. All the surgery's for this are like this so you can just amagine how we feel. The surgen is a joke and we can't get another one.I have to tell him what I know that my daughter heard and I know he Isn't going to believe me.I really don't care.If she doesn't have this surgery soon the cists could grow back and more trouble. She is so scared of doctors. This is why I'm taking her to a hypnotherapist for help. The doctors say she is causing the tremer in her left arm that she never had before surgery.I to have learned not to trust in doctors.

Sounds good to me.. I've never told very many people about it, but it does happen.. one of the worse/scariest things I've ever had happen to me.

I asked her two days after surgery if she heard anything while under? We are very spiritual but never before knew about this stuff. She started telling me little by little more and more that she heard.I wrote it all down. The doctors say she has post tramatic stress disorder and she caused the tremer in her arm that won't stop.I so understand why you ran out of the hospital. We do have on tape everything that she heard while under through our hypnotherapist that she goes to.It will feel good to talk to others that go through the same thing that you have gone through.

my grandmother had this expirence during a c section, she woke up and told all of the nurses what they had said and what was going on the whole thing. it would seem to me that your daughter had an out of body expirience. from what i have heard they are really common in hospitals. weather you belive me or not is up to you but it is what it is. there are very interesting things in this world you know

Um, they don't put you 'to sleep' for many surgical procedures-ESPECIALLY c-sections (it'd have to be a DIRE emergency)!!! You can potentially see and hear things under local, regional, and spinal anesthesia. You're doped up and possibly 'awake' or aware but you're not in pain, this is totally normal. Under general anesthesia, you'll be completely knocked out and shouldn't hear, see or feel a thing.

People 'think' they're having these bizarre experiences because they don't understand the difference between different types of anesthesia. And, they're high. Really, really high.

She told me two days after we got home what she started to remember.Little by little she remembered more and more.I asked her about going out of her body and she said she didn't.We do know all about things like that in this world.
