My dad's not a bad guy, but he geniunely dislikes me

My dad and I have a sort of weird relationship. He is pretty bad with sympathizing with people, and is pretty blunt.
He's honestly not a jerk or monster or abusive or anything, but the guy just honestly does not like me. His whole life, he has worked on cars and in factories, and can't understand why I want to pursue art or go to college when his factory is right here.
Like I said though, he's blunt, so it's not like we're hateful at each other, but he doesn't hide the fact that he dislikes me. If I asked him, he would just straight out tell me.

Is it normal to sometimes have these relationships?

    Me and my dad don't get along either... He drinks, parties, smokes pot, rides a Harley I don't do any of that I like outdoors nature etc...we never talk I tried to talk to him but he doesn't want to see me :-(

    I think you and your dad just have different life focuses. Like olileo (sp) said, he probably just doesnt get you.

    He seems to be a bit of a limited guy who's world is a lot smaller, already, than his son's. And you seem to have the maturity to take this in your stride and not expect anything of him that he is incapable of; such as respecting and supporting the things that interest you.

    Its not weird that you are like this, but it is an accomplishment. I suspect that at some levels (his) he does like you even though he might not quite get you.
