My dad gives represents! (cheap asshole!)

I'm curently mad enough to eat a steel beam and crap thumbtacks!

The is my mom's birthday. We, us kids (All five of us) each got her something nice, though the dynamic differed based on our financial and taste positions. The point is, we each tried our best to Get her something.

Our dad gave her a very very nice pair of boots.

The REASON I know they are a very very nice pair is that *I* gave them to our Grandmother for a gift about two yrs ago (Nanna has been dead about a yr now and the boots were in a box in our basement.)

The point is, my fucking dad ALWAYS does this shit to everyone! For christmas, a "gift" for my brothers is either something of his (Dad's) that he no longer wants, doesn't fit him anymore or he picks up at the local funeral home (they sometimes have suits and he knows the guy in charge.)

Or, occationally, dad will go out, by something HE wants (in his size, color, style) and then "borrow" it back after the fact. (Last yr he gave my other brother a tie collection and when my brother - who Never wears ties - told the old man what he could do with it, our dad elected to keep the "gift" for himself.

For us girls, well, now that grandmother died, for gifts he has been cleaning out her home of clothes, rings, necklaces appliances and other crap.

I am REALLY sick of him. (In general I think that when a person hits 70 they should be put to death, but he is making me re-evaluate my term limits downward.)

REALLY PISSED OFF HERE!

    Interesting story!!! Great story!!!

I'm with you! It would annoy me too but I would put it in perspective. You make an effort to really try and it seems your father puts very little effort into picking a gift, virtually none. Hence, you are irritated and disgusted. Try to see, we expect others to contribute on the same level we put forth but such thinking is just not real. Life doesn't work that way and life habits/efforts are not distributed 50/50. I would take a guess that your father contributes in other ways such as providing for the family financially, just a guess. A lot of fathers are downright poor in selecting appropriate gifts and spending time in it, often they just don't place the same emphasis of importance on it as others do. Many feel less obligated to emphasize the role of gift giving as they have others to fill in.

So, yes, you are right to be annoyed as hell, but I would let it slide and sometimes we just have to accept that is the way the person is, will always be, something we can't go about changing nor should you try to do so.

Remember, you can't teach an old dog new tricks.

Well I believe naturally dads are assholes all the time!! As soon as you see a glimpse of light he says or does something to remind you of a complete dick he is in any kind of circumstance. My dad is not only lazy and expects the world to come to him he is un supportive financially and has always been emotionally and basically in every kind of way. A sick bastard that gave me a rope for Christmas and told me to pick a tree that suits me. Every day i get madder and madder even in my thirties. I came close to a fist fight once from him and his drinking once and regret that i never punched his lights out! He once wrapped up a toilet bowl seat for christmas and a broom and gave it to my mom to see her reaction well it was tears and as soon as she was almost dead of tears he than gives her a gift. DICK DICK DICK!

what's a dead woman going to do with boots??? as long as the were new, and you didn't cause a scene at your mother's party... you should talk to your dad... if you confronted him at the party... you are scum that is selfish and should be sewn shut for ruining someone's birthday.

  • I think he should definitely give his wife of many years a very nice gift every year on her birthday. But as far as re-gifting to the rest of the family good for him its not like its worthless junk hes giving. You would be surprised how many people do the exact same thing.

bullshit! regifting is tacky as hell and even more so when u dont take enough care for the person to KNOW IT! like with the boots, THAT in itself would make him deserve douche bag of the year award!
