My co-workers are pissing me off

My company just hired a semi retarded man. Even on his first day, my co-workers were making enuendos about "retarded" and "retardation" in front of him. This really pisses me off. Why do they pick on people intellectually weaker than them? He doesn't get their jist, but it really pisses me off that they would stoop so low. Should I make my opinion clear, that I don't like the things they are saying, or just let it go? I really hope you guys respond. I want your opinions on this, because I'm going to lose my temper on,these assholes soon and possibly lose my job, which I can't afford. Thanks.

Tip the boss off, tell him/her that some staff are being a pack of evil bastards to him.

He has gone to work (I assume) to earn money, to build his self esteem & confidence. Not to be treated as some circus freak.

People who pick on others are weak, cowards, and insecure themselves. Me personally, I wouldn't be able to listen to it. Just don't lose your shit and be jobless.

Speak your mind, tell em how it makes you feel.
They are bullying someone with disabilities and that's disrespectful, Bullying in the workplace is not acceptable and either you should tell them off or tell the boss what they are doing. In the end, they will get fired.

    • They won't get fired where I'm working. Its a very dog eat dog environment. My worry is that if i do say something, and they make the mistake of getting hard with me, ill lose my temper and things will escalate to a point I can't afford. I didn't mention this earlier, but I have a problem controlling my temper and I'm afraid of things going too far. I have to keep things toned down because I have a family who depends on me being mature and level headed. I just can't stand to see a person at a disadvantage being ridiculed and blamed for their mistakes.

The first thing i would do is to make a complaint to hr. If that doesn't work, then i would stand up for him in person, respectfully.

    I'm of two minds.

One, I have a knee jerk reaction to protect the weak. So I support what you want to do. Just don't do it in front of him. It will make him even more uncomfortable being a point of contention.

Two, In my youth I worked in a restaurant. The manager and then later, owner, had a son who was challenged. Now this was one kid you wouldn't want to call retarded. He spent most of his day working out. He was into Special Olympics and all that. Well the point of this story is, each time he came in all the teen age girls would give him great big hugs. One day I was watching this as he was full on, lower body hugging this Amazing twenty year old. He looked over her shoulder gave me a shit eating grin and nodded his head. He totally knew he was getting sympathy feels from these girls. Don't always assume they don't know whats going on.

its just the newness of the situation , after that wears off you will never hear it again , so id just let it slide. Dogs are retarded too and everyone wants one. Don't be surprised if they turn him into their pet. So, if you attack your mouthy co-workers too soon in the game of life , you just look stupid. give it some time.
