My co-worker asked me if i had any friends..iin?

I'm not a loud mouth kind of person, I'm more quiet but I am very talkative when I'm in the mood. I've been working at this clothing store for about 2 mnths now and I feel completely comfortable there, so I didn't understand why she'd ask that. Basically I have this 65 year old coworker who I only see once or twice out of the 5 days I work and she works in a different area then me so we don't get to talk.

So today on my hour break, she's sitting in our breakroom with me and she literally says, "mind if I ask you something personal?" I of course say no, I don't mind and that's when she asked if I had any friends. She literally said something like, "I don't mean to pry at all but do you have any..friends, you know, do you ever hang out with anyone?" I really didn't know why she'd ask me that! I DO have friends and I hang out A LOT.

This really bothers me because now I wonder if I'm coming off as a really shy person or some sort of freak. Lol, I mean my friends are still my friends...SOOO I can't be that freaky but it really got to me! Why do you think she'd ask me that? She's not senile or anything either, she's definitely "with it".

Sounds like a bitch. So often, we forget that old people can be bitches and assholes too.

Get back at her by asking her "Hey, my grandma is about to have to start using protective undergarments for a leakage problem, can you recommend a good brand?"

    Depends why she's asking.

Perhaps she's asking because she's wondering if it's normal that SHE has no friends, and is checking whether or not you are in a similar boat.

What if she's the one who doesn't have any friends?

Sounds like it's more about her than you. Disarm herby telling her she's 1 of your closest friends.

She's asking because maybe she wants to be best friend with you.

She sounds overly judgemental but I can see why its lead you to assess your body language and vibe, people like that prey on our insecurities. Or she's really lonely herself and she's trying to gauge whether you're in a similar boat so she can ask you to catch up sometime and not be worried about what you'll think of the age difference.

Sounds like its more her than you. Her powers of analysis seems way off.

I think that it's often sometimes to adapt to different people, in different circumstances? It's also sadly,an ability that changes right through the 'Age' and 'Social' Spectrum,

Old people say all kinds of crazy things. The good thing is that you can shut them up by putting them in a home.
